22. 11. 2006 El Alamein (Egypt)
Morning spent on the beach between darts, archery, beach soccer, beach volleyball ...
It 'also been the first revolt of the so-called "prisoners of Alcatraz", so it was renamed the village as it does not give us the opportunity to go out to visit anything, to do anything outside the village, if not with their !
After many arguments and explanations, finally, thanks to Aunt Anna, we have perhaps reached a compromise and tomorrow we should go to Alexandria for our business!
23. 11. 2006 Alexandria (EGYPT)
After all these mess, we managed to obtain from the general manager of the village complete with a bus driver and body-guard to visit Alexandria!
This city in the past was very important harbor made famous by the famous "lighthouse", included among the seven wonders of the world, but now no longer exists!
Founded by Alexander the Great, Alexandria is the second most important and populous entire Egypt after the capital Cairo, and has six million inhabitants!
Although it was important in ancient times, today, seems not to be valued so much, in fact, more than a measly handful of Indo-Canadian tourists, being on a cruise in the Mediterranean, I decided to make a leap here, we did not encounter other tourists ! Even hawkers of postcards or souvenirs, but one of fake watches, that even wanted to sell a fake Rolex for the price of 5 euros ...
Although this is the second time I visit Egypt, I can say that for the first time I am actually felt "inside" an Egyptian town! Far from any tourist route and completely immersed in their lives everyday! Surrounded by many girls "decorated" the so-called "hegheb" (veil) that looked at us curiously, some more daring sketch or even a smile: "Hello How are you?" and ran away, while in the background, from the minaret could be heard wailing prayers of Muslims, almost like a brainwashing, every 4 hours as I understand it, the whole town was invaded by these "litanies" ... Religion! Just as extremist and intolerable that religion that kills its followers with the lure of making sacrifice "promises" that really knows if he will keep ...
How are these strange Arabs, women consider them less than nothing, our driver and body-guard for everything you ask for me or Jerry, the three women who were with us (my aunt, Claudia and Virgy) were completely invisible to their eyes! Did not exist! But I read in the deep dark-eyed gaze that I met along my way: a desire to escape, evasion, to throw away that damn veil and show, as is the nature of vain women.
Returning to nostr0 "tour" we visited the summer residence of the royal family, now President Mubarak, a palace surrounded by nothing but that! Then the modern building which houses the famous Library of Alexandria but it has now become a sort of museum of modern art. Right there we were surrounded by dozens of students from their multicolored veils that intrigued us, approached and asked to be photographed paradoxically turn! It 'was very strange, not me would never have expected, I thought they were retiring under this case, instead I was wrong! Maybe future generations will be different, more emancipated. I hope for them! [Nick]: I took with the camera, an Egyptian girl who hit me, really cute with his red hagheb ... I am made to send a kiss while filming and after a while He's made some friends and a camera in his hand because he wanted to be photographed with me! I was expecting them longer closed ...
I was wrong even when I thought in the Arab world there were no McDonald's, and instead, eccotelo there! Involve the whole group and against all odds the best eating McChicken menu ever tasted! I positively affects both the cleaning courtesy of orders, strictly veiled!
But change much argument, as any journalist would say, today, Nov. 23, is a very important day for my military life because just a year ago today, I took the final exam for the contest for lieutenant and be in the Military Memorial El Alamein is a coincidence too particular, just that I, as Deputy Head of course, we have to go as a tradition, during the second year of the academy (but that year was canceled!) But here I am anyway!
Shrine envelops you completely silent in the Egyptian desert is touching to see our flag waving next to the Egyptian, and it seems the wind, "intones the silence."
I am reminded of the story of heroes with such passion and studied the film with such fervor that struck my heart. I printed again before my eyes the sentence of the General German troops: Rommel said: "The German soldier has astonished the world. Bersagliere Italian astonished the German soldier." This and many other phrases read in this place filled my heart with pride and emotion and made me feel even more proud to be an Italian soldier! W Italy. [Nick]: How exciting! It was worth coming here ... are places that make you think ... courage ... the honor ... sacrifice but also the patriotism that ultimately does not seem to fall into the soul of Italian or at least most unfortunately ...
