17. 12. 2005 Marsa Alam (Egypt)
But where are they? Here there is really nothing but a classic five-star village, very beautiful, all inclusive ... The usual pessimism of the first day!
18. 12. 2005 Marsa Alam (Egypt)
This morning we enjoyed a lot. We got up very late and went directly to dive into the sea, which is 10 meters from our room! The bay consists of a layer of 50 cm of reef that extends for about 150 meters after which there is the pit, take a step and fall down ... as happened to me!
19. 12. 2005 Marsa Alam (Egypt)
Note that the entrance to the lobby of our village is the armed guard in place of the porter, complete with metal detectors!
There are taxis and a walk in the village of Marsa Alam, we had to book a taxi a day before he knows where he comes from.
This morning we did snorkelling! How exciting! The reef is beautiful! There were huge, colorful fish that became even touch us, not to mention the underwater flora!
My first impression was amazing and I think that really there is a parallel world, the submarine! "Under the Sea! Under the Sea!" someone singing! It 'really true! They are right Dysneyani cartoons like "Little Mermaid" or "Finding Nemo" where they show another world! What fish. There were tunnels, Grand Canyon and we looked like many Jacques Costeau immersed in water in search of who knows what ...
20. 12. 2005 Marsa Alam (Egypt)
Finally this afternoon we were able to hire a taxi! Of course after so many checks and searches of the driver and the car! Be safe out alone? But our driver: Saab, very quiet, seems to be a quiet person!
First stage: Marsa Alam City. A tiny village dirty, desolate, smelly sheep and goats in which empire! Very interesting, however, how and where the Egyptians really live, where they study, to quit school for boys and girls wearing veils ...
As in any self-respecting Arab place, even here women are not considered at all, and so our driver and our guide: Hassan, to relate everything to us men! Assan even told me that until recently it was said that the woman came home just three times in his life: when born, when she went into her husband's house and when he died. He added that for him everything was a bit exaggerated, maybe six or seven times you can get them out ... the sad thing is that his was not a joke!
Being so "primitive" with regard to relationships with women, consequently, virginity is something very important for them. Even after the wedding night is usually put outside the door of the house, the sheets stained with blood, witnesses the woman's virginity!
After the "tour" of Marsa Alam try to resolve another matter: the exchange of money! In Egypt, even a simple thing becomes an affable State! The only change in South Egypt is out! And how do we get as a military airfield? So begins the epic of the various authorizations, controls documents, various steps in the ever-present metal detectors ... but eventually we make it!
20. 12. 2005 Luxor (Egypt)
Wake up at 3:15 ... you go to Luxor!
After a day trip we stop at Safaga, which is the meeting point for tour buses of Marsa Alam and Hurghada to Luxor. We were about 60 buses escorted by police. Well, actually they were real soldiers armed to the teeth.
Tourism accounts for 40% of national income and the Egyptians we consider the protection and safety of its visitors.
The procession, pardon the caravan. A long and tedious journey, and every time we passed in some desolate village, with the classic Egyptian sitting undisturbed on the streets enjoying his hookah. Otherwise only ever desert. How sad!
We visit the Temple of Karnak, very charming and after lunch in a luxurious five-star hotel (Le Meridien) overlooking the Nile will take the opportunity to visit this building: beautiful decorations, the minute details, paintings and luxury so that seemed to be not in Egypt but in the UAE!
With a small boat, cross the Nile to the pier that leads to the "Valley of the Kings." There are many tombs of the pharaohs were discovered Egyptian ...
What is certainly more characteristic was the visit to Luxor Temple at night, the lights, the shadows, all those majestic statues and especially the plaintive prayers coming from the minarets have made it more memorable.
One thing that really fascinated me was the thought that these hieroglyphics, I watched so carefully, had 3500 years ... 3500 years! Do you realize?
