Flight Rome-Luxor charter. Arrival and accommodation on the ship Royal Princess ....
We head to the beautiful Temple of Karnak, immense, characteristic with its imposing columns, the obelisk and the sacred lake.
Towards dusk we reach the nearby Temple of Luxor. The artificial lighting is among the most interesting. The two statues of Ramses sessions introduces the avenue toward the beautiful courtyard and through the hallway lined with imposing columns you arrive at Santa Santorum.
The second day I wake up at 4 and a half to avoid the heat of the Valley of the Kings
From the Valley to reach the Temple of Hatshepsut. The temple consists of several levels with terraces facing to the Valley of the Kings
The return to the vessel includes a stop at a factory where he works in alabaster and a visit to the famous Colossi of Memnon.
Let's sail towards Luxor, Upper Egypt, or South. Edfu next stage, namely the Temple of Horus. In the Temple of the Ptolemaic, is visible inside a reconstruction of the boat procession
South is the town of Kom Ombo where we encounter the Temple of Two Gods, or of Sobek and Horus. The outside Nilometer measure the height of the Nile to prevent flooding of the River.
A visit to the market of Kom Ombo is a must.
In the evening we arrive in Aswan and the city lights offer us a wonderful spectacle.
In the morning we leave for a visit to the High Dam, passing first through the old dam built by the British in early 1900. The flooding of such a vast area, in addition to environmental disaster, caused the sinking of some archaeological sites. During the '60s some of these were found and moved through monumental works.
An example of these works is the Temple of Philae dismantled piece by piece and moved completely on the island of Agilkia, Reconstructing the landscape and vegetation of the original site.
Returning to Aswan we go to the factory state that produces essences and perfumes of all kinds. A switch to the old quarry where they were built monuments and Obelisks. There's still an impressive, who would become the largest obelisk known (about 42 meters long with a broad base of more than 4 meters), but broken during its creation to a failure.
At sunset we enjoy the scenery of the Nile on a felucca (traditional sailing boats) and headed toward the island of Elephantine.
Navigation unfortunately ends in Aswan.
With an internal flight in about half an hour we arrive at Abu Simbel (We are just a few kilometers from the border with Sudan). Two huge temples carved into the rock (that of Ramses II and his wife Nefertari) dominated the area overlooking Lake Nasser. The Facade of the Temple Primary 4 sees enormous seated statues of Pharaoh Ramses. Inside the beautiful depiction of the pharaoh in battle and the Santa Santorum with 4 statues of Ramses the second represents That Which is illuminated from above by a ray of sunshine in sunny days of February 21 (his birthday) and 21 October (day of his coronation ). After moving the temple, unfortunately the dates are moved forward by one day.
The Temple of Nefertari (the favorite among the many wives of Ramses) sees 6 beautiful statues Representing the pharaoh and his wife with sons and daughters.
Reluctantly left Abu Simbel and head with a scheduled domestic flight to the capital Cairo.
The next day we visit the beautiful mosque of Mohamed Ali at the Citadel with the fortification built by Saladin. It seems that the walls of the Citadel, built as a defense against the Crusaders, were built with stones from the pyramids of Giza.
In the evening we enjoy the spectacle of lights and sounds in the plain of Giza.
In the morning we return to Giza and reach the base of the second pyramid of Khafre riding a camel.
Visit Chephren. Cheops is impressive. From a distance it seems lower than Khafre but this is due simply Because the second was built on a natural rise. More than 140 meters high with a base of 230 meters per side!
Under Cheops, you can visit one of two solar boats found at the base and rebuilt in a separate gallery. Considering that nearly 5000 years I would say take them really well.
Khafre part by the long corridor leading to the Sphinx and the exploration of this ends our tour here at Giza. The advice is to take precautions to Egyptian pounds before you visit these places, Because they do not accept foreign currency.
From Giza reach the ancient city of Memphis where you can see a huge statue of Ramses as it is refined. At a stone's throw Reach Saqqara. The stepped pyramid of Djoser is considered among the oldest pyramids, prior to those of Giza.
Our short but intense trip ends with a visit to the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. The quantity of artifacts seen is incredible, considering that in the stores there are so many, not displayed for space reasons. Incredibly rich part that reconstructs the Tomb of Tutankhamen discovered in the Valley of the Kings to visit the section that contains the mummies have to pay a separate ticket (14 euros).
Left Egypt, taking with us a beautiful memory. This land offers a unique historical treasures in the world but at the same time suffering from numerous social problems that do not allow a decent life for most people who live there. The splendours of ancient Egypt are far!
