Kenya - Watamu - Summer 2008
Our journey began July 25 2008 with the direct flight Eurofly (un po 'late ..) from Fiumicino Airport in Mombasa.
Upon arrival in Momabasa (July 26) the time is not much, in fact shortly after we beccati a beautiful sound, fortunately lasted little .. Ivana know at the airport and Leonardo, a pair of Bologna, which will prove simpaticissimi traveling companions!
The transfer from the airport to Watamu takes about a couple of hours. We are staying at the Jacaranda Beach Resort, a wonderful 4 **** hotel management Italian (we eat well !!!), to 7 km of gravel road from Watamu and about 20 km from Malindi.
In the afternoon we meet on the beach of Jacaranda Salim and Dida, two "beach boys" who had already contacted by using Federica di Grosseto, which goes our immense gratitude! There are now people seem serious and reliable, despite their young age (23/24 years). We organize excursions and contracts to € 220.00 per person (not comparable to the prices of ..) the excursion all'Isola dell'Amore, the Safari in Tsavo East 1 day and a half, the ruins of Ghedi, Malindi Safari and blue. Even Ivana and Leonardo confirm all excursions with Salim and Dida has started our wonderful adventure ...
July 27: starting at 9.00 am from Jacaranda with Ivana, Leo, Dida and Salim for Watamu: destination Island of Love. We embark from the beach of Watamu on a boat sailing to reach the island (the crossing takes about 10-15 min.). The place is beautiful! The low tide slowly began to be felt and the little strip of sand becomes a beautiful white beach! After a dip, and several purchases by women of the place (necklaces, bracelets, tattoos with henna, wooden objects, sarongs and pareos-stop), a lunch of fish grilled and excellent fruit. In the afternoon take the canoe and return to Watamu to visit the country always accompanied by our trusted guide.
July 28: Alarm at 4.30 and departure at 5.00 Tsavo East park destination. After a brief stop in Malindi, begins the adventure to the vast savanna. From Malindi to the park there are just under 4 hours by road. We enter the park at 10.00 and after a few kilometers here are the first sightings .. elephants, gazelles and zebras .. there are many .. Shortly after we see a hippopotamus in the distance and the beautiful giraffes, and even baboons, ostriches, eagles Serpentara .. Due to acute view of our friends and Dida Salim finally we can see the lions .. a little 'far but with the binoculars we can distinguish perfectly! Around 13.00 we arrive in the beautiful Lodge Voi Wildlife (http://www.voiwildlifelodge.com), we settle in our tents (yes, despite the possibility of beautiful rooms, we preferred the tent ... sleeping in the silence of Savanna is a fantastic experience, especially for those who love nature and camping like us !!!). After lunch and a short nap, we're back ready for the afternoon safari: spotted dik-dik, mangoose and even elephants and zebras. After dinner, we take an hour of relaxation and in the darkness of the bush here is closer to the lake Lodge 2 buffalo!
July 29: Alarm at 5.30. At 6.00 Dida and Salim call us at phone: "Do as you are in for a surprise!" At the lake there were no buffalo in the 2 previous evening but a 'whole herd .. lots .. an amazing show .. If the day you see the morning we have a good chance to meet the lions! Not later than 2 hours, here they are ... in the middle of the yellow steppe savannah .. Two .. fantastic! That morning was more fortunate than you could ever expect .. the eye of the lynx Salim sight 2 cheetahs ... some 'of escape, but we can see them before you leave .. What emotion!
Jacaranda to return for lunch with strong emotions ..
July 30: sunny morning at Jacaranda and after lunch for Watamu with our friends in Bologna, Dida and Salim. Let's find children dell'orfanotrofio leave pens, notebooks and maize flour. Touching a meeting .. heart in throat.
The afternoon continues with a visit to the ruins of Ghedi, beautiful archaeological site of an Arab town of the thirteenth century and then continued to Malindi, where we visit the factory of wood and some shops to buy gifts for relatives and friends.
July 31: departure at 8.30 for Watamu where at 9.00 am we board the boat for the excursion of the blue in Safari Marine Park: we can see many colorful fish in the beautiful turquoise sea and the mangroves! Disembarking on the island and lunch of coconut rice with octopus, lobster and shrimp grilled, always followed by good fruit! Let us return to Watamu and spend a couple of hours in the company of Salim and Dida .. now our holiday is almost over and there was a pleasure to engage other Italians to work our trusted friends.
Spend the last day depletion .. sun, sea and walks in the low tide. Salute and thank our children and Salim Dida, leave their medicine, shampoo, toothpaste, Autan, etc.. Without them it would have been a banal seaside holiday ... Jambo Kenya, we hope to be able to meet yet!
