Friday 'an November 14 is the hour from home, it is very cold ... no fog light traffic.
We arrive at the airport and there are only 4 hours to go!! We check in, we assegnagno window seats, fantastic! The plane was practically empty, so we just took off and divide stretch, so we can sleep the whole flight quansi!
I wake up, and the breathtaking sunrise, I savor them, and began to wave you get from 2h. I look out below us and already the savannah. We arrive, flight and 'went very well, my heart beats fast while we're out. We go through the door and we go from 0 ° to +30 the air is warm, enveloping us and I backpack, sweatshirt, long pants, I melt. But I'm in Africa at last! My dream is coming true! I'm not in the skin, fill the form for a visa, we pass the checks, baggage claim and out ... finally!
At the counter of our TO await us, we get on our bus, and begins the journey to Watamu.
Mombasa cross, cars, people pulling carts piled high with feet that stuff, "stalls" on the sides of roads, vedita of clothes, kitchenware, straw bags, women with colored clothes, with the children are sitting on the back edge of the way to sell a little 'of vegetables, a little' fruit.
I'm tired, and sleep comes and I did not realize, I'm tossed, but I can not sleep, am calm, I'm here finally where I want to be! ?
At some point, I open my eyes, and sides of the road stretches of agave, the agave used to make clothes, carpets, an infinite expanse! Now I can not sit still, there 'too much to see, the houses, people, the sky, the first huge baobab trees, everything! I wish I had eyes like a chameleon!! I will not miss a frame of that landscape ........ I'm falling in love! In fact, now I know who I was!
We arrive at the Barracuda Inn, a village with many houses in each house, two bedrooms, one downstairs, with a veranda, an upstairs terrace, where bougainvillea climbing up and form a shelter collor purple, pink, from the sun! We lay our bags, we put the costume and run on the beach!
White, a blinding white, beautiful, the beautiful sea. We lie in the sun and arrive bb! Everyone wants to sell a safari, they have photos, they explain, they all talk together, are troubling, we are tired and so, back to the village. We decide that we do nothing, just sea, sea, sea!
Said and done! In the evening, sit in a cool place, and talking with other people who had arrived before us, including a family with a child of 6 years, we let ourselves be persuaded to do the safari! Yes, ok, but with whom?? as a trust? Paula, the mother of the child, give us the contact of John tells us that has a website (www.in2kenya.jimdo.com) has contacted the first to arrive, which issued the receipt, which they found themselves well. So, he calls and we meet the next day, the program explains, always responds with a smile to our many questions, and ... well, we decided to leave!
John and 'was brilliant. We were scared, despite the reassurances, and instead it was all great!
The next morning, the van of the safari with John, we are waiting outside the gate of the village, we are sleepy, the air is cool, now I can not wait to be inside the park!
I am struck by the poverty 'I see, the villages that we encounter on the road to get to Tsavo are mud houses, with makuti roof, even oxen, but many are already on the road, on foot, by bicycle the luckiest . John tells us that many of them work on the coast, and they are going to work. There are women with tanks poised on the head, the baby tied on her back with a kanga: go to fetch water!
The children run towards the van, yelling: ciaoooooooo! greet us with one hand, the white teeth stand out, the smiles that make us as we passed! The poverty is palpable, but I also see, how much dignity, and we have nothing smile. My heart starts to crumble, is dispersed among the smiles of children, mothers dressed in many colors, weights on their heads, kids running, and we cross the road, a rooster strutting!
Finally we arrived at the park of Tsavo East, I divide between camcorder, digital camera ...... but because 'I do not have 4 arms? What I can not photograph? Oh, and if I can not take pictures! Aiutoooooo
The landscapes and alternate every km you take a piece of the heart strongly. The colors are more intense the red earth and enters you, but 'beautiful, the sky is as blue as I've ever seen! ..... We spot the first animals began to bounce back and the 'in the van, now I also have 4 eyes! I apologize to my teammates, but I see that they too are excited! and we laugh together, we understand, we feel the same feelings.
I would have thought that the animals seen only from a distance with binoculars, and that would have been just a little dot on the pictures, that only I would know it but here they !!........ them '! 5 elephants crossing the road there and then ... the zebras and antelopes are there, I can almost touch them, under bushes, small dik-dik! Abu the driver, and John, you speak, then we say that there's a surprise! The car starts runs and runs in the fourth ... we arrive, a family of 6 lions sleeping near the river ...... not breathing 'for me, the holiday could stop now!
But I still expect a lot of emotions. We turn up at lunchtime and we see animals galore. Even elephants, zebras, buffalo watching us. We arrive at the lodge makes a tremendous heat, but I do not feel anything. They give us a huge room with 2 double beds, lunch starts at 15! After lunch I go out on the terrace, at one point by a group of trees, check with 4 puppies and elephants come to drink in the pool, we are just playing with the little water, the big ones seem to pose for us, are without words!
During the safari in the afternoon, we turn to search for more animals as possible, not tired, I would go on forever!
I hear John calling other customers who are in Watamu, they are doing other tours, wants to know if all is well ... dear John and 'special.
Overnight rain and the bush awakens seems strange but there are even said to the leaves of a green fluorescent !!....... not forget 'those colors ever.
We return to Watamu but before we stop in a village on the way back, the children around us we give them what we brought from Italy, too little! The children laugh when they see on the screen of the camera.
The week continues the fine weather, we also do the safari blue, in what is called Sardegna2, the sea has great colors, the painting seems, a new sea turtle under our boat when it arrives at low tide, the boat lies on the strips of sand that rise, walk, do the bath, then a lunch of lobster, all on the boat, eat, laugh, sing! In return we are burned by the sun, the sunset to accompany our village. I'm tired, but happy! I can still hear the songs, "Jambo, jambo bwana. Habari Gani. Nzuri healthy. Wagen, wakaribishwa. Kenya yetu, Hakuna Matata! "
How many times have I heard, how many times I hear again!
It was not a holiday. It 'was an encounter with a land rich in contrasts, but I was excited, I called again and again
4 years have passed since then, I have still many safaris, other excursions, visited Lamu, Kilifi, Mombasa.
