Kenya ... I dreamed for so long this trip that, as soon as I had the chance, I did not hesitate ...
We leave in four at a time of Mombasa on 21/09/2007 with a night flight of Livingstone, quiet trip though the emotion was so great ..
We land in Mombasa after 8 hours of flight and the coach of the Condor is already there waiting for us, after loading the luggage, we leave for Watamu, a small village about 25 km from Malindi. The bus trip lasts 3 hours, luckily most of paved road. I look out the window and the magic of Kenya wins us immediately with its colors, sounds and sensations ... all seems a dream!
Finally we arrive at the village Aquarius Resort in Watamu. The property is beautiful, right in the Swahili style, the restaurant is excellent and the staff is friendly and helpful. Only negative is the animation almost nonexistent. Portraits baggage hear the briefing at the hotel, naturally begin to make trips and to make one thousand comments on the "dangerousness" of the beach boys (they are guys that are just outside the Watamu from or at the beach, at the beginning certainly think they are too intrusive but trust them because they are really smart people who work with such enthusiasm)
Well! The prices that we offer at the hotel are exaggerated but it does not matter because we already know where to turn.
We decide to go straight to the beach outside our hotel was waiting for a beach boy Sugar contacted previously from Italy! We understand immediately that it is a great guy and that he could not take risks, has much experience and speaks excellent Italian. We propose hiking the same view but at attractive prices, to say the least half of what was requested by the tour operator, we can also count on his continued assistance.
By deciding to book three trips: the 2-day safari to Tsavo East with you overnight at Wildlife Lodge (full board), the blue and Malindi Safari, you could also arrange other tours like the island of Lamu, Marafra, Midas Creeck ETC. but we only had one week available.
We go to the beach across the driveway dell'Aquarius, but only to customers, and we are immediately struck by the color of the sea not to mention the sand here is so white that it seemed talcum powder .. a true paradise.
The next day we leave for the safari blue, the excursion is a day at sea, snorkeling in the marine park and lunch of lobster. We started with a boat complete with glass bottom, we stopped in the middle of the marine park where it was possible to dive. To set out into the mangroves and we arrive on a lovely beach where a group of children greeted us with songs and dances are fun. Of course the "restaurant" is open and eat rice with coconut sauce, lobster, prawns, swordfish, octopus around the grill, and lots of fruit.
After lunch, we were a little 'there to speak with the local boys who have told us a bit' of their lives and we bought some souvenirs.
The next day we spend at the beach, the sea is wonderful and thanks to the succession of tidal pools are formed incredible, "There are beautiful starfish. It is impressive as the sea receded, leaving vast stretches of white sand and the landscape changes several times during the day ..
Let us enjoy this day to relax but we're excited because the day after you leave for the safari.
At six o'clock we are already on the bus with our guide and an inseparable pair of amiable young Sardinians, Barbara and Fabrizio, who has joined our little group. The road to the park is amazing ... two hours on a road not really comfortable but the landscape is amazing .. met so many children with their school uniforms those who walk miles to go to school and greet us cheerfully.
Finally we arrive at the Park Tsavo East and on the banks of the river we can see, up close, of crocodiles.
We leave for a game drive in animals, we are immediately struck by the colors of the bush burned by the sun, and we see immediately from the majestic Baobab many baboons, zebras, giraffes, elephants ... the sight is great beyond expectations!
Lunch in vol Wildlife Lodge, a luxury hotel inside the park, welcoming us with wet towels to cool, we are covered by a thin layer of red sand (which is difficult from the clothes will go away!), And we offer something to drink. We deliver the keys of the rooms, you could choose to sleep in tent camps or lodge. The thing that struck me about this property is that opposite the terrace restaurant is a pond where the animals come to drink at dawn and at dusk you can picture postcard ..
In the afternoon we see many animals, elephants, gazelles, antelope, giraffe, dik dik and many buffalo ... now the only thing we want is to see the lions!
After two hours of breathtaking scenery and red earth everywhere, we can see some lions but they are far away to photograph them, are also lying in the shade of a big tree and we do not do just to move from there ... is actually hot!
We're a little 'disappointed but it has comforted in the savannah sunset .. indescribable spectacle of colors that is hard to tell in words ..
We return to the lodge for dinner. It's all very good and also the company is good we are all extremely happy for the emotions that this place is giving us.
The next morning woke up very early and after a hearty breakfast we are ready for a new exit in the Park, we continue to see animals and take pictures more beautiful than the other ..
Along the way back through small villages of red earth and we stop to see the places where it was filmed "My Africa", on the occasion to greet some children and give them crayons and candy .. The next day we spend the morning the beach and after lunch we are ready for the visit to Malindi.
We visited the factory where many artisans create stunning wood sculptures, masks and statues, of course we do a little 'purchases (prices are still cheaper on the beach ..) and take a tour of the city. Returning all'Aquarius ask if he can accompany Sugar Mama Lucy from a supermarket where there's a cute little 'to everything and that is close to our hotel. With the energies we left our guide if you can visit him and Watamu, available as usual, we are satisfied, we see the cinema, bar and various shops ...
There would be many things to do, but unfortunately our holiday week is almost over and then the last day we decide to pass it to the beach but we are somewhat 'unfortunate because it rains all day .. so we pass the time chatting to the beach boys although they are still there outside the hotel and are so cute that it's hard not to feel their friends .. The time has come to say goodbye and sadness is really great .. thanks to all the people of Watamu we had the good fortune to know in this trip and a special thanks to our guide for Sugar has made our holiday a wonderful experience and unforgettable!
