The island of Mauritius (Mauritius), not 'the Mauritius' as they say often, is a volcanic island 58 km long and wide 47 km. Mauritius is located about 2000 km east of the African Court at about 800 km over Madagascar and is about 220 km from the equally famous reunion and is on the same latitude as Rio de Janeiro. It has an area of almost 2000 square kilometers and over 300 km of coastline.
Its morphology includes a large central plateau, tropical forests rivers and waterfalls. The highest peaks over 800 m.

The nation of Mauritius also includes the island of Rodrigues, mail to more than 500 km to the north and with other scattered coral atolls (Cargados, Carajos and Agalega) is part of the Mascarene (named after their discoverers: the navigator Portuguese Pedro de Mascarenhas).

Is considered that Mauritius is the highest end of an enormous sunken volcanic chain that extends from the Seychelles Islands to Reunion. However, unlike Reunion, Mauritius, although there are active volcanoes are found numerous remains of volcanic activity. The crater of Trou aux Cerfs at Curepipe and Grand Bassin sacred lake are examples of extinct craters and volcanic lakes. The island is covered by millions of pebbles of lava fields of sugar cane can be seen hundreds of small pyramids, the joint effort of the Creoles, formed just from these stones.

Mauritius is surrounded by a coral reef that causes long stretches of sandy white pink and stop in some places, for example, along the south coast between Souillac and Le Bouchon, where the cliff is interrupted, the sea crash against dark rocks resulting in a spectacular wild and rugged coastline. To the south of the island rises rapidly to reach a central plateau that, over the mountains behind Port Louis, slopes gently to the north: the highest peak, the Pitou de la Petite Rivière Noire, reaches the 800 m

Mauritius is also a wonderful example of cultural integration: the Mauritians are in fact of many ethnicities and cultures. Wandering around the island can meet the natives of all kinds: white, African, Indian and Muslim. Each ethnic group tends to not mix with others, but every community respects the traditions, customs and traditions of all others.

Our Tour

We stayed in Mauritius for a week staying at Bougainville, thanks to a package offered by Blue Holidays.
Without entering the details of our story we simply list the places we visited during our stay in Mauritius, by entering some information and tips earned based on our experience. The island offers many other attractions that obviously in our week stay we did not have time to visit.

Hotel Bougainville

We begin with a quick description of our home during the holiday. The hotel is located on the east coast of Mauritius, famous for its long sandy beaches and clear turquoise sea. The hotel is 45 minutes from the airport and 40 from the capital Port Louis. The famous island of deer can be reached in ten minutes by speedboat.
The environment and structure are simple, but comfortable and clean (excellent cuisine). There are also a couple of animators Italians, but the animation is very soft (perhaps too). The property is therefore ideal for a stay of total relaxation. Through the hotel you can book tours lasting up to a day that allow a quick visit every corner of the island. To save some money you can also lean on the services offered by beach boys who will be looking directly at the beach. Taxis perpetually awaiting entrance to the hotel can provide for quick and cheap travel in the island. Together at the Indian Resort Hotel which is the pair of Blue Holidays offers as a package for their stay in the island.

PAMPLEMOUSSES

the public garden, a few kilometers from Port Louis, on the island and famous for its many species of plants that grow there including the giant Amazonian water lilies and many species of palms.

THE MARKET Flacq

Flacq is one of the villages on the island. This is where you find one of the largest open-air market in the country. Very popular with local tourists and also this colorful market is located within walking distance from the Judiciary, an important historical building. The market is good for the purchase of spices and souvenirs and enjoy the many examples of humanity on the island (especially Hindu and Muslim). Do not forget to haggle over prices that are offered!

THE ISLAND OF CERVI

A paradise for water sports enthusiasts and for those who like to relax in the sun: here are the most beautiful beaches of Mauritius. As mentioned the island is reachable for a few euros and in a few minutes by motorboat the Beach Boys.

Chamarel

A road leading to the village of curvaceous Noyal Houses and land multicolour Chamarel. This is an area with rolling terrain with contrasting colors. The phenomenon is of volcanic origin: it falls under the ashes laid bare by the process of erosion that have broken down in detail in various sectors and strata, areas blue, green, yellow, purple and red. to visit the nearby waterfalls of Tamarin that emerge from a plain covered with wild vegetation.

THE Black River Gorges

This park was created in 1994 protects what remains of the original forest of Mauritius. In addition to ancient tropical trees can be admired animals (especially monkeys).

Trou aux Cerfs

Mauritius was born as a result of intense volcanic activity as evidenced by the crater of Trou Aux Cerfs the highlands of Curepipe. The crater is about a hundred meters deep and offers an exceptional view on the western island.

Grand Bassin

A charming legend is linked to this splendid sacred lake, which according to tradition was born from the drops of water falling from the head of the god Shiva, fascinated by the beauty of Mauritius. Every year between February and March the river is the destination of a pilgrimage to the island's Hindu population makes to pay homage to the god on the occasion of Maha Shivaratree, the most important religious festival outside the borders of India, dressed in white, pilgrims go in procession to the lake bringing a Kanva, a wooden structure decorated with paper flowers, and got it right by throwing water burn incense offerings of food and flowers. The strong sense of spirituality can breath (literally) throughout the year.

CASEL

Located in the district of Riviere Noire this bird park stretches over 25 hectares and has the presence of over 140 species of birds from five continents. In the park there are also other animals such as tigers, giant tortoises and monkeys.
