Background: 1 euro = 11 dirhams exchange, package tours "DIY", a 2-hour time zone difference.
Booked Ryanair flight from Bergamo to Fes at 11:30 on 30 September. At 13.00 (now Morocco) where we arrive at the airport waiting for the taxi that we booked through the Riad Dar Cordoba (http://www.darcordoba.com/) for 120 dirhams (about 11 €). We arrive at the riad (cost € 80 a room per day including breakfast) is located near the main gate of the Medina, the blue door and Boujeloud Batha square, we are literally amazed at our entrance. ... It is great! It feels like entering a museum. The silence from the chaos of the Medina which is very close is amazing, is full of mosaics, stucco, carved wood and paintings. We are greeted with great hospitality, 'by Moha and Mubarak (the two Moroccans who run it even if it is owned by a Spaniard, Jose') with a nice te 'mint and pastries, this treatment there will be' reserved for each time during the day return to the riad. Sfar escorted to our suite we are even more 'amazement, the room is huge with a sofa and reading, the bathroom as well, and there is also a second bath. All three windows overlooking the courtyard of the riad. We can tell the stuff we do now and book a taxi from Moha staff that makes us see the outside of the city of Fez Medina. For 200 dh (about 18 €) we have a personal driver for 3 hours in a sequence that shows us, making us stop whenever we wanted, the royal palace, the fort on the hill south of the French military had been established until 1956, a cooperative ceramics, the Jewish Quarter (mellah), the view from the hill north of the medina where there is also the tomb of one of Meridina dynasties that reigned in Morocco in XIII-XV century. In the evening back in the riad take a shower then go out with other guys and Spanish versions of the same riad to eat at a restaurant in the Batha square, at the modest price of 150 dh (13.5 €) a good tajine and couscous.
On October 1 we wake up, let's abundant breakfast Dar Cordoba then at 9:30 we reach the Italian speaking guide we booked for 250 dh (23 €) at the riad, and four hours for us to visit the Medina of Fez (UNESCO), just because it is virtually impossible given that the lanes are narrow, and no name. With the guidance we all see things more 'important without wasting time. We enter the blue door and suffered a wave of colors, smells, sounds, smells it invests. We see in the Andalusian quarter sequence, the medersa Bou Inania (10 dh), the mosque Karaouiyine (forbidden to non-Muslims), the district tanners work where you can see the skins as 1000 years ago, just put a sprig of mint under the nose for the stench! Here we have contracted a highly decorated camel skin puff at a price of 500 ... dh .. dh had left by 1400! We then visited the souk and its thousands of products sold, the zaouia of Moulay Idriss II (tomb of the second sovereign idrisside founder of Fes), the Kasbah Cherarda (now the hospital and university), port, Ba el-Sheba, the land that are Mechouar parade surrounded by walls. At 14.00 pm we go back in the riad for a little refreshment, and then we can again in the evening around 20.00 for dinner in the restaurant near where the blue door with 150 dh (13.5 €) we eat in two.
On October 2, after breakfast at 10.00 is to take a taxi just for us where the price of 800 dh (about 72 €), we have all day available to the driver to visit Volubilis, Moulay Idriss and Meknes (one of the cities' imperial). Let's start with Volubilis (10 dh input) where for two hours exploring all that remains of the ancient Roman capital of Mauretania: the Basilica, the Capitol, the arc, the avenues, the mosaics, the front door. When finished, we continue the journey to Moulay Idriss a small town perched on the mountain, all white, and especially the tomb of Moulay Idriss I who founded 'the Muslim-Arab dynasty in Morocco, related directly with the prophet Muhammad. We share just as the driver to Meknes where we have lunch we take advantage to see the city start with the beautiful gate of the medina Mansour one of the most 'beautiful of Morocco on the el-Hedim square, then move on to the square Lalla Aouda and its minaret mosque, and then we get (free) to the beautiful mausoleum of Sultan Moulay Ismail of the seventeenth century, rich with stucco, mosaics and inlays. Then finally we visit Heras (the king's stables) and the Bassin de l'Aguedal a reservoir that was used to supply water to the city 'empire, the hammam and the gardens. In the evening we come back tired but happy after a nice shower and again to eat in the restaurants of the blue door at the price of 100 DH in two!
On October 3, we get up early, make a hearty breakfast and then we get a petite taxi (8 dh), which brings us to the station at 8.50 Fez where we take the train that takes us from Marrakech to Marrakech and then bus Supratur us bring 'definitely in Essaouira on the sea! The single ticket costs 260 dh (about 24 €), but if you want you can 'stop in Marrakesh with the only train for 165 dh (15 €). We arrived after 7 hours (passing through Rabat and Casablanca), Marrakech, go down and attached to the train station there 'and bus Supratur, wait an hour and then we leave, we are at 20 to Essaouira. Tired but happy we booked from home to our riad (http://www.les-matins-bleus.com/) run by two cousins and Moroccan Youssef Samir, the riad in the medina is nice and its close to everything, the cost per room is € 43 with breakfast!
