Our safari 'lasted 9 days, we bought the flight Milan Malpensa / Nairobi' cause it costs much less than the flight to Kilimanjaro, then the Shuttle Bus will arrive in Arusha with a few more $ in ', I've arranged everything with a My dear friend Tanzanian who has an agency, at a cost very good, we were in a Jeep with 7 to 9 seats. Total cost € 1900.
USEFUL INFORMATION
LUGGAGE: camera! Soft bag, non-designer 'cause you will fill' fine red dust! BIC pen caps, are used to put our spines in their sockets! Neutral-colored clothing. You should not miss a flashlight because 'there is hardly electricity at night. This 'essential rest and' subjective!
VACCINATIONS: compulsory yellow fever.
CHANGE: 1950 Tanzanian shillings worth 1 euro, while Tanzanian shillings 1450 $ 1, you should also because the $ 'in some cases give a value equal to both of you!
MEALS: Tanzanian dishes are good, there is more rice, chicken, potatoes, other vegetables and fruit, then certainly not lacking, banana, mango, papaya and pineapple special! The lunch box that you eat for lunch and 'a surprise!
CLIMATE: warm dry day, but we are close to the equator where the sun and 'strong, significant temperature change at night, even the most' in less than 10 degrees, so the bag should not be missing a hat and sunglasses sun, but even a fleece or jacket for the cold!
COMMUNICATION: the telephone network, and 'good, not always in the parks, call from Tanzania with mobile phones and' very expensive, and 'can take a sim site that have very affordable rates.
INFO: every time I harbor pencils, pens, clothes, toys for children, but also part of my gift to adults, clothing, medicines, etc ... everything 'that can' serve to most people 'in need of me!
Milan / Arusha
Departure from Milan Malpensa at 14.30 with Egyptair. Stopover in Cairo, after super controls, at 22.30 we board. Night flight to Nairobi, arriving at 3.20. We await the "Shuttle bus", it is cold, and only at about 8.30 we start to deal with another 5 hours by road, mostly paved, but with an occasional bump and the inevitable bumps. The "leisure" travel is greater than the repeated filling of the visa application for leave to enter Kenya and Tanzania, but considering that saves us a good share of ticket we face it with dignity. We arrive in Arusha to Kundayo Apartments, which is a nice apartment with fridge, stove, and everything that could be used, too bad that there is electricity for only a few hours, but this is Tanzania. After sitting all this way, we need to stretch, and here we are for the main Arusha highway flanked by small nurseries and market stalls where some women in their colorful costumes sell fruits and grilled white corn. What impresses me in this bustle and 'people on foot and some shiny bike, but most of the buses are called "from the" load stipatissimi that travelers have to travel a bit' longer and depending on the route are marked strips of different color. From what you see on this dusty road, this population has a real reverence for the cars. There are many in fact, the pseudo workshops and also catches the eye almost maniacal care in washing their vehicles. Certainly understandable, it is probably one of their major sources of income. The climate is comfortable, ventilated and does not seem to be in Africa, the rest Oh yes! Finally Tanzanian dinner "with Ciapa soupe", a soup instead of croutons, you eat with a sort of pancakes made pieces: excellent!
Lake Manyara
After breakfast, we make a first stop in water supply for all our safaris, and then we head to Lake Manyara named dall'Euphorbia candelabra plant huge and widespread in this part of the world. They use this plant to build the roofs of their homes "Bomas". The lake is the national reserve since 1960 and has been declared a biosphere reserve in 1981. Meet Masai grazing their cows with a hump for the meager supply of water. We cross the village of Mtowambu, and begin to become familiar with their beautiful greeting "jambo", "nzuri healthy" (all right), "hakuna matata" (no problem) we leave the luggage at Jambo Lodge, a beautiful complex in nature with many birds and a marabou large nests right on top of a tree in front of the reception.
We enter the park, and here are the first families of baboons grooming, but little more 'out there will encounter giraffes, warthogs, monkeys, dik dik, elephant, mongoose ... At two o'clock we stopped to eat our lunch box which, as we shall see, will not depart from time ever: a hard-boiled egg, roasted chicken, two slices of bread with cheese, a wafer, fruit juice and the inevitable banana, but we eat "together" of wonderful colorful birds, and "in front of us" along the shore of the lake, several zebras playing tag, and giraffes move with the way they do very funny, poor have this long neck that makes life difficult, and 'a of those moments that you will return often after the safari 'in mind! We head all'Hippo Pool (the Pool of Hippos) welcomed by many zebras and hippos in the bathroom, and unfortunately 'late and you have to leave. Lavish dinner with soup, chicken, banana. We serve with respect, addressing the ladies with "mama" and the gentlemen with "pope".
The evening dance show and exhibition of sounds outside the fence of the lodge, but pitch black! We pull into the lodge area to browse the many local objects and deal with their funny way of bargaining, which to them is just a game, figures to start high and then declined to very low numbers so it is longer and more fun, indeed for those who are not accustomed as we are, is a bit 'tiring.
