The Republic of Uzbekistan is a state (447,400 km ², 25,563,441 inhabitants, the capital Tashkent) of Central Asia. To the north and west by Kazakhstan, east by Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to the south with Afghanistan and Turkmenistan. The official language is Uzbek.
For millennia, the current Uzbekistan became part of Persia. Before the gradual arrival of the invaders of Turkish descent, the area was inhabited by people of ancestry Iranica Persian speakers. Today, the descendants of these early inhabitants still make up a significant minority and are known as Tajik.
Uzbekistan is the most populous state in Central Asia. Its 25 million people, concentrated in the south and east of the country, constituting about half of the total population of the area. Uzbekistan, at the time of the Soviet Union, was one of the poorest republics, most of the population was employed in the cultivation of cotton in small rural communities. Even today, most of the population live in rural areas and depends on agriculture for their livelihoods.
