The Socialist Republic of Vietnam is a state in south-east Asia. It borders China, Laos, Cambodia and the Gulf of Tonkin.
Its surface is about 331,688 square km. The territory is characterized by 80% by hills and mountains with thick vegetation, while only the remaining 20% consists of the flatlands.
In the north are the highlands and the Red River delta, the south is divided between the depression coming to the coast, the mountainous group Giai Truong Son (high plains) and the delta of the Mekong river.
