May Day: they all lie, but we always changes! After a flight of 12 hours we are already operating in a van that takes us to the hotel. Transfer Cancun-Playa del Carmen lasts an hour and as always am so fascinated by the first contact with the new nation! This time, the entrance to the hotel was a little different, there was the army of waiters with multicolored cocktails waiting for us, there was a group of animators to complete the traditional welcome or a thousand porters rushed on our cases but a sleepy "Pedro" which makes us easily fill a small registration form ... without giving us the "mythical bracelet tourist"! The room is very far from the standards to which we have used Aunt Anna, but that's okay!

02. 05. 2007 Playa del Carmen (Mexico)

After a short night's sleep because of jet lag, we are just about to arrange the first stages of our journey. First we need to change the money ... I still can not comprehend how the clever girl bureaux de change and try to pull a fast $ 100 if it were not for the attentive Nick (known as Putty) there would also be successful! Then: eye! Typical lunch in a restaurant just down the street: "Los Portales" with lots of atmosphere included! A nice plate of chicken "asado" blacks spicy rice and beans! A full stomach we organized the first of several shipments: Merida. We will leave tonight at midnight with a bus company ADO and 5 hours of travel ahead. The spirit of adventure, weakened in recent years in me, starts to light up a little bit like my sunburned neck ... I feel again the inter Railer than once with a great desire for adventure and discovery!

03. 05. 2007 Merida (Mexico)

Destination: Merida, capital of Yucatan also because, as we said, "Merida deserves." Reached their destination, now inseparable from our armed "Routard" (the "Lonely Planet" for the poor) starts the "search dell'alberghetto lost! As three zombies wander the streets of a lonely Merida that at 5 am about to wake up. Thanks to our guide, we find a cheap place to sleep: Hotel Margarita with just over 5 euros per person per night becomes our basis for the next 3 days! It 'an old colonial building that recalls its former glory but quite comfortable, confident that at 5:30 in the morning, still sleeping with a receptionist and all the lights off except those that lit up a great Lady and a Christmas tree (in May! ) and an input formed by a large door with grim bars (like those of a prison) as in most classic horror film does not leave much hope! It seemed the beginning of the movie "Hostel", but appearances are fortunately mistaken!

Breakfast in the center, in the Zocalo! In that bar, with a beautiful fresh fruit salad on his plate, the big Mexican flag waving in front of us there and the people who passed ... What a feeling!

At 9.30 we took advantage of the free tour of the historic center, but after half an hour, a bit bored we jumped in a taxi to visit the cemetery, famous for its colorful graves where each color corresponded to a different type of death ...

But our day is still long. Buy 2 tours for the two most important sites. First stage: Uxmal! Frankly, a bit like happened to Cairo at the foot of the Pyramids, again I am not been enchanted as I saw for the first time Stonehenge ... The two great pyramids of Uxmal, however, and all the monuments that surround and especially the various mysteries that lurk in the air are very interesting, thanks to the fact that we were the only visitors to the site! Watched all the great spaces that surround us, perhaps, trying to imagine what hundreds of years ago the Maya could see from there.

Uxmal is the place I ever struck by the presence of iguanas. I've never seen so many in my life were everywhere, "cazzeggiano, climbed, ate regardless of the presence of these strange beings armed bipedal video-camera! How strange the world!
