First day: We arrive in Mexico City, "El Monster" as they affectionately call the Chilangos, its inhabitants, as many as 25 million, a conglomeration of ancient and modern, slums and opulence, contrasts very obvious, if you will, for a country that is suspended between North and South America and strong economic growth and development. Contrasts which enhance its appeal even more Latin. Our driver takes us to the hotel, facing the Catedral de la Asuncion, the most impressive of the continent. Ends the long journey that took us from Italy in the heart of Mexico and tomorrow starts the adventure in this beautiful country of a thousand souls and faces.
Second day, begins our journey through Mexico. There are lots of things to discover, so many new realities and expectations are not few. Inaugurated our visits, starting from the historic center of Mexico City, considered the largest in the world. In addition to the Plaza de la ConstituciĆ³n and also known as the Zocalo de las Tres Culturas, where baroque and pre-Columbian meet, go to the discovery of many interesting corners of the capital, some well-known as the district dell'Alameda, with its splendid palaces, others not known as the Iglesia de San Juan de Dios, on the Continent for its unique faƧade concave apse, the Palacio Arzobispal and other picturesque spots of the Centro Historico. After lunch, all eyes are delighted by the imposing pyramids of Teotihuacan, the place where men become gods, fascinated by the geometric perfection of the buildings, the Avenue of the Dead and the temples of the Moon and the Sun, symbol of one of the most ancient civilizations enigmatic and ancient human history. In the evening we go out for a walk in the historical center, surrounded by people, clubs, restaurants, museums and art galleries stay open until late at night and the lively night life both in and out among the above sounds, the many colors and teeming streets of the capital which is one of the most energetic that despite its problems and its bad reputation - not entirely true considering that the same crime rate in Milan or Paris - the city remains one of the "mas hermosas the mundo "as its inhabitants proudly say
Third Day is also the last in Mexico City. In the morning take hours to visit the unique museum of Anthropology, one of the largest and most prestigious in the world, huge collection of country about 5 thousand years. Brief lunch in the Polanco district, behind the forest of Chapultepec (which in Aztec means hill of the butterflies), where the museum and in the afternoon visit is divided between two districts of the Gothic artists, the beautiful Coyoacan where the House Azul of Frida Kahlo and San Angel, a small painting in the open. You can dine at a restaurant in the colonial neighborhood and greets you with the capital last night in the soil Chilango in "ombligo del Mundo", often as many call it: the largest city in the world for one of the largest countries World (attention to criticism!! Mexicans are very patriotic and love me so much that their nation is proud to present to the visitor).
Fourth day towards Oaxaca, "City of Jade", as well as the birthplace of Juarez, the first indigenous president of Mexico Democrat. The first visit is colorful Cholula, with its splendid Royal Chapel and Moorish-style pyramid Tepanapa, the largest in the world, even with a perimeter and area 5 times higher than that of Cheops and built in 6000 BC seems and the colonial city of Puebla, including churches, palaces and houses the Library Palafoxiana where the Nuremberg Code, with thousands of Mayan hieroglyphics and pictorial codes. We arrive in the evening in Oaxaca, in a fairy-tale atmosphere of times past, typical of the timeless charm of this city's stark beauty but deep.
Fifth day dedicated to all sites of Monte Alban Zapotec, Mixtec to that of Mitla, with columns of the palace and the pueblo of San Bartolo Coyotepec artesano, where they produce the precious black pottery still following the old method of pre-Columbian cooking, for conclude with the city of Oaxaca, which bewitches us the elegance of the cathedral of Santo Domingo and Soledad, masterpieces of the Baroque Plateresque.
Sixth day, getting up well before dawn, take the bus (of coaches - with reclining seats and service on board), in the direction of Chiapas. We have breakfast en route, near Tenuantepec, famous for its isthmus, the narrowest point in Mexico - just 100 km from north to south - and his "Valley of the Winds" and continues in an exciting journey of 8 hours from the Cordillera Central, which brings us to the South with a few drops of tropical here and there along the way. Arrived at the pueblo of Chiapa de Corzo, we board a boat for a quick hike about 45 minutes along the Grijalva River, sacred to the Maya Lacandon, attarverso Sumidero the canyon, spectacular gorge crossed the river, which together with the Usumancita , is the main reservoir for all the indigenous Mayan straddling Chiapas and Guatemala. In the afternoon, we visit the small, lively San Cristobal de las Casas, with the shops, the cottages colorful, indigenous women that descend from the mountains to the market and the evocative "churches of porcelain" vivid and intense colors.
Seventh day, stop at San Cristobal de las Casas to discover the two most popular native pueblos, the Tzeltal Zinancatan, traditions intact for centuries and still proudly carried on despite the persecution of Spanish and Tzotzil Chamula, known for the stunning church of shamans and witches, where Christianity is fused with the religions of the Maya area. Before sunset we return to San Cristobal to visit the Museum of Mayan Medicine, interesting exposition of the pharmacopoeia and medical pre-Columbian traditions still carried on from father to son in families shamanic forest and surrounding mountains.
Eighth day, the most exciting, for the sudden change of landscape and climate, from the alpine and temperate climate of San Cristobal de las Casas in the humid tropical jungle of Palenque. We make a brief stop in Agua Azul, and altitude to acclimatise to the new environment and to admire the waterfalls that give life to the river Usumancita and eat a lunch of fish from the river. In the evening, zigzagging through the streets and corners of the Lacandon jungle populated by (and which you still have a great ability to adapt - to the condition of roads in Chiapas that memory is the most backward area of ??Mexico), we arrive in Palenque, where we eat and stay overnight at the lodge surrounded by the sounds and silences of a typical rain forest (eg those who hate geckos must be trained to see someone sleeping on the bedroom windows! is normal considering that we are in a plain band humid sub-tropical, as well as that animals are harmless!).
