Quintana Roo is one of 31 states of Mexico in the east of the Yucatan Peninsula. It is bordered to the north and west by the states of Yucatan and Campeche, on the east by the Caribbean Sea and south with Belize. The name comes from Andrés Quintana Roo, a patriot of the Mexican Republic. The region occupied by this state was one of the areas most populated by the Maya. Many believe that this is the most beautiful part of the country. Here also are the imposing ruins of the Maya: along with the Aztecs and the Incas, the Mayans were the most important pre-Columbian America civilizing.
