A brief visit to St. Maarten, the capital of the Netherlands antilles. A pearl of the Caribbeans

Reached the port of Philipsbourg, capital of the Dutch island of St. Maarten, with the ship Costa Atlantica. Along with Dorina and a couple of friends known cruise we took a minibus taxi and head into the French side of the island. Does not exist between the two parties a real border but only a marble memorial stone placed at the side of a hill road which marks the border. On returning from the French side only a welcome sign in the Netherlands. Returning to Philipsbourg you can see in some places the large lagoon on a hill. The Dutch part of the island has gained a certain independence with the break-up occurred recently in the domain of the Antilles. The capital reached by taxi is taken from the French zone and modern tourism. The main street is full of tax free shops and especially of jewelry while the promenade which is a prelude to the port where the cruise ships dock is more pleasant with a few palm trees on the beach. On the sidewalk in front of the pier a patch reproducing the tourist map of the entire island. It is impressive to walk on the docks where cruise ships docked six. From here we take our place on the ship. Be noted that before coming to St. Maarten had sighted the ship very close two other Dutch islands: the small Saba with Monte Scenary and St.Eustathius.
