A tour of the Wallonie region inside the Kingdom of Belgium
This is one of my first trips abroad, and certainly the first without being accompanied by one of my family. I was 17 and took part in the colony organized on request from my stay in town at that time was twinned with Etterbeek, one of the 19 municipalities making up the area of the capital Brussels. In fact, however, do not stay in Etterbeek but in a village in the hills of the Ardennes, Faulx les Tombes, not far from Namur. In this pleasant country town of Etterbeek had its summer camp here and we were staying with the children Belgians. The colony was a large country house located near a turreted castle converted into a hotel. The two-week stay was very pleasant, we had a tennis court, riding stables and much green. The restaurant is located on a hill that we had to walk along a long staircase. In that place surrounded by nature did pleasant knowledge with our peers in Etterbeek. From Faulx les Tombes we left by bus for the trip interesting and instructive beyond. These include visiting the capital Brussels with the spectacular Grand Place, surrounded by ancient noble houses, the statue of the baby pees and the Chinese Pavilion. Sull'Atomium also climbed, the symbol of the city. We also led to Etterbeek to visit a large sports center. Another interesting excursion took us on the beach of Ostend via Gent, where we visited the austere cathedral, and stopping in Brugge. I found it really charming with its canals traversed by boat, the old houses that surround it, the beguine convents and a romantic fountain with horses. On another occasion we visited the historical heart of Liège. The most exciting trip for us guys, however, was that in Dinant and Han. Here we had occasion to visit a cave and face in a canoe descent of the Lesse. A little rowing, becoming a little carried away by current exceeds two small waterfalls. Namur was instead a must since we arrived here by train from Italy and from there we drove with great nostalgia.
