During the Winter Olympics of 1994 and I reached my friend Lillehammer in Norway with the train passing course to Denmark where we stopped only to change the train to Copenhagen. We traveled mostly at night in the Danish section where we saw virtually nothing. We had entered the border between Jutland and Germany and we went through the night the narrow channel between Lake Elsinore and Swedish Helsingborg. After returning from Norway recrossed, this time in a gray morning, the narrow sudedetto back in Denmark. Elsinore fell to visiting the historic center of old houses covered for the occasion by a blanket of snow, then we moved with a bus near the castle made famous by Shakespeare's tragedy Hamlet. The manor there appeared quite gloomy, with its dark walls, the abundant snow, the absolute absence of visitors and a shipyard during construction. Back at the station we took the train to Copenhagen. Arrived in the capital in the summer where I was years before I had the chance to see this city in another aspect, the winter, when beset by General winter, is always fascinating. Wander among its monuments shrouded in snow seems to get lost in a fairy tale Handersen. We see the Hall from the tower, Christiansborg Castle, the fortress Kaštelet the strange spiral tower, and octagonal Charlottenborg Amalinborg, home of the Crown, whose perspective is closed by a domed building that makes the complex similar to St. Peter's Square in Rome. Here we are fortunate diassistere the changing of the guard in front of the Royal Palace. Although the symbol of Copenhagen is the famous bronze statue of the Little Mermaid that extends his profile on the sea in memory of the Danish Handersen s fairy tale, the place that exudes more charm, even in winter when frozen, is certainly on the Nyhavn canal lined with timbered houses colorful and where old sailing ships are moored. Just along the channel at a pizza lunch. But we have not visited the Tivoli amusement park, probably closed and we have limited ourselves to see the entrance. Instead I had the satisfaction of going to see in a park covered by snow Castle Rosemborg I had not seen the previous time. In the evening we took the train to return. Left Denmark at the border of Jutland and Germany, then on to Italy.
I was in Denmark on two other occasions (see related routes).
