Christmas' route in Ulm, Augsburg and Landsberg am Lech. E 'Christmas again.

Every year you start thinking about the first Christmas ever.

We even have started to think about it this summer.

... And ... If we organize well for our trip to the traditional Christmas markets and we want to find a place in the hotels which we found surfing the internet, we must hurry and book everything from the month of July.

After studying guidebooks, brochures from agencies and internet sites, we decide to go to Germany, to be exact to ULMA (Ulm in Germany) and Augusta (Augsburg).

Recandoci annually to the Christmas markets and always in different places, we realized that the best markets are located in Germany (flying Measuring the Austrians) and we learn that at Augusta Ulm and the markets are quite important.

So, Friday December 8, starting from Ulm Varese direction

Ulm

Alarm clock at 5 and 6 before we leave by car from Varese.
Buy customs seal the annual Swiss motorways (just under 30 euros).
Crossing the Swiss territory in the dark and under a steady rain.
Walk down the tunnel of S. Bernardino fearing the snow outside the tunnel but we are lucky and not snowing.
Technical stop in one of the rare motorway in Switzerland, we enter and exit from and here we are in Germany.
Before 11:00 we are at Ulm.
We lose a little 'time to find our hotel located on a canal in the district of fishermen Fischerviertel.
Two words on our hotel because it deserves.
It's called SCHIEFES HAUS, is not just a hotel but the historic building for excellence in Ulm. E 'dated 1500 and is in the Guinness Book of Records as the most crooked house of Europe.
It has an incredible charm. Even the rooms, with old wooden travoni sight, but renovated with modern, have the floor open. Our room, perhaps one in a privileged location, is just the small channel and a sweet sound of water accompanies us throughout the night.
Groups of tourists stop in front of our windows and taking photos of us all proud and we are proud to look, as if to say "we are staying here."
The average price is high but for one night only, you can do.
Park your car in the garage and start the visit of Ulm.
We are lucky: there's the sun and the temperature is pretty hot.
We start the visit by the district in which we find ourselves, the Fischerviertel (fishermen quarter) with old timbered houses, canals and bridges.
We reach the center and shoot the decorated Palazzo del Comune (Rathaus).
Visit inside the cathedral (Munster) and of course, scoured the Christmas Market which is located here and is made up of about 130 stalls.
We buy a small house in ceramics (which obviously play our hotel) for our collection, some sweet, and the traditional mulled wine in ceramic cups of the marketplace.
After, stroll through the streets and surrounding shops.
We seek a restaurant for the evening, but we find that to Ulm, there are not many.
Fascinated the building, we decide to book the Bistro / Cafe ALEXANDRE located in the Town Hall.
Not much choice of dishes, no dishes or almost German, but we spend very little.

Augsburg

Accurate breakfast at the hotel, where he favors the "salty" than that sweet and then we put ourselves in the car direction AUGUSTA.
The distance is short. About 77 km, in 1 hour and then we're already in town.
This time we reach the hotel without any difficulty.
The indications that we have provided in the e-mail reservations are accurate.
Our hotel is called AUSBURGER HOF and belongs all'accurata chain ROMANTIK HOTEL. As the word itself, all the hotels in this chain are particularly romantic, placed in buildings of special charm and you in particular. This is not the first time we stayed in hotels of this chain and we were always very satisfied with: a charming hotel leaves a special memory of the holiday, helping to make it memorable.
Unfortunately today it rains and rain all day.
Then we visit the beautiful city of Augusta with an umbrella. Fortunately, here, unlike Ulm, there are many interesting buildings to visit internally.
We start by visiting cultural Cathedral, located near our hotel.
This is a great building, very articulate, perhaps somewhat 'austere, with adjoining cloister.
Then visit the City Hall (Rathaus) where you can visit the beautiful golden room.
We then central Maximilian Straat and here we visit the Schaezlerpalais.
This is the city art gallery with paintings also important (in addition to German artists, there is also a Canaletto, Tiepolo and a Veronese). But the best of the building is without doubt the hall, a magnificent rococo salon.
Finally we visit the church of St. Ulrich and then move on to sweep the streets with many shops.
Let us return then to the Town Hall square in which there is the Christmas market.
If the city of Augusta is certainly the most interesting of Ulm, the market is slightly smaller and even the desks are not original.
Does not buy almost anything. Drink only apple juice hot in cups of Augsburg.
In the afternoon we visit the Fuggerei: a characteristic complex of housing, to be precise, the oldest in the world. Inside the village of yellow houses, you can visit the church and museum, with original furnishings of the houses of Fuggerei.
After a short afternoon nap at the hotel, leave on time for 18:00 to watch the spectacle of "Angels" on the windows of City Hall.
24 listed Angels, with a blonde wig and wings, face lit by the windows of City Hall. A group of angels musicians, performs a short concert on the balcony of City Hall and so, the play of light, the effect of music, clothing dream of angels, they create a warm atmosphere.
After the brief show, do some buying in the shops (which stay open until late) and then go looking for a restaurant. Even here the company is rather difficult, the restaurants are very few, but where these Germans eat cabbage? From what we see, their situation is preferred to eat sandwiches with sausage stands, the marketplace!
We instead look for a traditional Bavarian restaurant with typical dishes of the German tradition.
Following the advice of our Green Guide Touring, dinner at Zum Weissen Hasen (always remember to book).
The menu is in German (not English) and so, relying a little 'all'intuito, we order a couple of dishes in the dark.
All in all it went pretty well! Will caviamo quickly and cheaply.
To return to the soft market in search of something truly special. We find and order 2 Dampfnudel This is a sweet sandwich drowned in a bowl of warm vanilla cream and topped with sugar and cinnamon. Remarkable and abundant!
After this, there remains nothing but driving to our hotel for a night of well-deserved rest.

Landsberg am Lech

After a breakfast, even today, nothing disappointing, take the car parked in the garage and convenience we head to the nearby Landsberg am Lech.
Unfortunately we arrived too early and the town is still sleeping.
Unfortunately we discover that the Christmas market only opens at 13.00. What can we do to trick the wait?
We decide to visit the town, street to street.
The town is colored is nice, but Sunday morning is perhaps a little 'sad!
We note the pleasant Mutterturm (remember the turret of a castle of the witches), the nearby closed creating many waterfalls on the river, walk up to the colored Bayertor (door symbol of the city itself) and then stationed in the square of the beautiful Town Hall facade (you can visit, but not on Sundays).
Also visit the many churches in the city, some 3, one of the most beautiful. In particular, in the main square there is the Pfarkirche Maria Himmelfahrt, baroque style with a magnificent body. Also nice little covered wooden bridge, on the stream that crosses the country.
Pending enter a beautiful pastry (Konditorei in German), where we order two glass of chocolate and buy an assortment of sweets to take home.
Then we visit the market quickly, a little small but nice and then return home
Last step is to mention the parking all'autogrill, Switzerland, close to Chur. The motorway has a name, is called Heidiland Heidi with a person in the faces of the turret at times.
The interior is all well cared for, beautiful bathrooms, even a fake windmill.
Minimarket supplied where you can buy any type of chocolate (of course) and souvenirs Switzerland.
