Yesterday we were at the Oktoberfest, now visit the city of Monaco.
Resume underground line U2 to the terminus of Messestad East, always change the station and take the Ring Innsbrucker U5 station Marienplatz, peeled Max Joseph Square in front of the Residenz (Royal Palace), one of the museums of interior decoration most significant in Europe. The palace was built in 1385 and gradually became rich, contains also the treasury and the beautiful National Theater where he had the first of several works of Richard Wagner under the patronage of Ludwig II of Bavaria.
In the same square is the Katholische Kajetan Stiftskirche.
Driving along a road reserved for pedestrians only, the Weinstrasse, surrounded by elegant shops in blocks of time, you get to Marienplatz is located in the impressive Neus Rathaus city, grand neo-Gothic building with its clock tower . The statues watch two separate dance scenes: a joust in honor of the wedding of Duke Wilhelm V to Renata of Lorraine; Schäfflertanz or the other is the dance of the coopers.
We climbed the tower by paying a ticket and use a lift. The first is free but must pay the second. It's worth, there is a wonderful city views.
The Marienplatz is the Mariensäule (Column of the Virgin), in commemoration of the late Swedish invasion. The golden statue of the Virgin, which dates to 1590, was designed by Hubert Gerhard. The four cherubs at the base of the column in 1638 and are the work of Ferdinand Murmann, the cherubs are represented in the act of hunger, war, plague and heresy.
Covering the Kaufingerstrasse is the cathedral of Monaco of Bavaria and seat of the Archbishop of Monaco and Freising. The church stands where it was first built in a Romanesque basilica. The imposing structure, built of brick, overlooking the city. In fact, the towers are nearly a hundred feet high. The domes surmounting the towers, onion-shaped and made of brass, were completed only in 1525. Inside the church there are many examples of art worthy of note. First among them is the tomb of Louis of Bavaria. The sarcophagus of the emperor is surrounded by statues of four riders, representing peace and war.
At the end of the street you come to Karlplatz with its beautiful fountain.
Back on Kaufingerstrasse and feeling a little peckish, we looked around for a restaurant, many were scattered along the road, but full of tourists on a side street we found a pizza bar, this time we ate well and spent the right .
After wandering this beautiful city we took the subway and we got back to the parking lot in our motor home, where we waited Sketch grumbling.
