A vacation day of spring through the castles of Bavaria. Germany

I have the advantage of having already visited Bavaria in the past, so I can plan a route that does not hit a wrong, choosing the best places to stay and most interesting places to visit.

Max, however, has never been here and so can benefit from my past experience

 

Neubeurn, Prien, Herrenchiemsee

We start from Varese to 5:30 am, Brenner direction.

By mid morning we make a technical stopover at Neubeuern colorful village between Innsbruck and Salzburg and a little later we arrive at Prien, pretty town on Lake Chiemsee (in German "see" means lake).

We find without difficulty our hotel (Seehotel, booked as usual through our web site) located near the lake.

Prien is the starting point for ferries to visit the palace of Herrenchiemsee that stands on an island in the middle of the lake.

This is the first of the castles we visit, the fruit of imagination of the legendary Ludwig II of Bavaria.

The building is a replica of the palace of Versailles, as Ludwig II was inspired, fully, to Louis XIV. Here, among the magnificent premises, we find a gallery of mirrors even larger than that of Versailles. Lunch at the self service building, with outdoor tables and views of the beautiful fountains in the park.

On the way back to Prien, do a brief walk through the shops of the center and ceniamo in a restaurant by the lake

Burghausen, Munich

We start early, Burghausen direction.

The town is dominated by a fortress, to be precise "the longest fortress in Europe."

Visit and then walk the walls throughout their length, admiring the view from above and faces, on the one side, colored on the town below and the other on a green lake.

We go as soon as possible in the direction of Monaco, where staying.

Find a map in hand with our hotel (Hotel Tannenbaum) located in the center, near the Sendlinger Tor. More complicated will be to find a location for the car, as we discover that the car park, is closed during the day on Sunday.

In the afternoon we begin to explore the city: the Asamkirche (opulenta church, filled with decorations), Marienplatz, the heart of the city and then the magnificent Residenz.

The Residenz is a great stay real. The whole tour would take hours of time. Visit admired the royal apartments, and in particular the most important room called "Antiquarium. We also recommend a visit to the theater building, Cuvilliés Theater, a true architectural gem.

Ceniamo in one of the local historians of Monaco, Augustinerbrau, an old brewery Agostiniana and used for a typical restaurant hours (normal price). The interiors are very specific. If the weather and crowds permitting, we recommend the tables placed in the internal courtyard. In any case, to ensure a table, the reservation is required because the restaurant is always very crowded.

Nymphenburg, Schleissheim, Linderhof, Fussen

We go by car to the suburbs west of Monaco to visit the palace of Nymphenburg.

It 'a big white building, surrounded by enormous fountains and streams, composed of a central body as well as a series of buildings located nell'enorme park.

For reasons of time, just visit the interior of the building, which was the birthplace of the famous King Ludwig II. Of note, the beautiful entrance hall decorated with pastel colors and the "Gallery of Beauty", with portraits of the most beautiful ladies from Monaco.

Stage at book shop (in which each visit the castle) and then quickly by the time the residence of Schleissheim, north of Monaco.

Also this building is made, as above, from a building, a magnificent park and 2 other smaller buildings located in the park. We visit the new building, with huge rooms decorated. Here, unlike all the castles we visit, there are no furnishings, but the decoration of the rooms is so impressive to see not even the total absence of furniture.

When finished, take the motorway towards Garmisch for the second visit to the castle of Ludwig: Linderhof.

This is a small but sfarzosissimo castle where Ludwig loved isolate. The rooms are small, designed for one person but a luxury.

Beautiful scenic park and fountains. Do not miss a visit to the artificial grotto, with a pond, the fruit of genius and madness of the King

Return the car to go to Füssen, where staying.

The journey from Linderhof in Füssen, it seems short on paper but in fact it is not. However, the scenery is breathtaking, especially when it runs along a beautiful mountain lake blue.

Füssen is a colorful town, with a nice pedestrian area filled with shops (the sin that they are all closed Sunday). We take some pictures because the place deserves.

We are very enthusiastic about the choice of our hotel (Hotel Hirsch, average price), the beautiful pastel-colored facade, the lovely decor in elegant Tyrolean style and the bed in our room.

Hohenschwangau, Neuschwanstein and back

Breakfast in our nice not disappoint us, and after that we are very close to the castle of Neuschwanstein.

After 10 minutes we have arrived third and unfinished castle Ludwig.

First we visit the nearby and more modest yellow Hohenschwangau castle, then go to the most famous white castle Neuschwanstein.

The ticket office is only for the 2 castles and is located in the area of the parking lots. The ticket is all bureaucracy and give us a visit as all'Asl. We therefore need to equip all the patience can wait for our turn to do the row to take the shuttle bus that will take us on top of the mountain, near the castle (you can alternatively use the collective coaches pulled by horses)

We make some panoramic pictures on the bridge Marienbrücke, the only point where you can photograph the castle in full, in all its complexity.

We address finally the steep but short climb that separates us from the castle but every effort is rewarded. The castle is unique. The most amazing environments are the throne room and the hall of the musicians. And 'here that Ludwig has given its best and if not add more.

Our journey has really closed in beauty, it is better to say.
