In these 4 days we have tried to combine the pleasure of visiting castles and medieval villages to the relaxed feeling of being surrounded by a quiet and beautiful nature ... We have therefore decided not to stop in all countries usually indicated along the "Romantic Strasse "but to choose some official documents between sites and comments from other travelers (among others, point out the www.vacanzeingermania.com site that allows you to request information that is sent free to your home within no more than a week ).
These notes as a travel diary will be a collection of information and advice which I hope can be useful to those who want to travel in Bavaria romantic!
Our itinerary was as follows:
Day 1: Arrive in the early afternoon in Schwangau, the Trentino, through the Brenner Pass and Austria (in Austria agrees to the full tank of fuel because the price is lower). We chose to stay here to be ready the next morning, to visit the two famous castles of the place (in fact even Füssen is vicinisima but then must leave the car in a parking fee .. and then make you want to start your day without touching the car?). Having taken a look at www.Booking.com (site I have been very useful x previous trips), I decided to put the advice given by other travelers and I opted for a family hotel that has in fact proved very cute (see website www.romantic-pension.de): clean, comfortable and very close to the castles (x € 67 a double room).
Unfortunately, the arrival time was bruttina: mist and drizzle do not make some tribute to the magnificent panorama of the place ... and it was just cold (8 °) but the weather consulted before leaving gave us hope to have the sun the next day!.
In the afternoon we visited Füssen, very nice for his very distinctive pedestrian center. There is also a castle, you can not see inside from the outside but affecting the painted decorations to create a three-dimensional effect.
Excellent view to the restaurants (we stopped here to return), we ate very well and affordable two-in we have not ever spent more than 40-euro note when ordered that the portions are very plentiful! . I recommend the Gastof Krone (frittelline the good of all'aglio sauce with mushrooms and potato soup served in a bun) and The Eagle (despite the Italian name, you eat the dishes really good place, like shin of veal with gnoccone red cabbage and potatoes and swordfish accompanied by an unusual lemon risotto. Gastof Looking at the Krone, which is easily identified, is in the bottom of a lane on the right).
If you want to go shopping keep in mind that in all these countries, the shops are open all day but close at 18 on weekdays and 16 on Saturday. The cuisine of the restaurants in the evening usually ends around 21-22.
Day 2: with a magnificent sun (18th) we visited the two castles. Both truly deserve a visit, starting from "Hohenschwangau". We did not find any code to the ticket office but we were told that at other times the wait can be long (if you have little time, plus you can book the tickets, even from the internet).
The king who built the castles had chosen this place for the beautiful nature surrounding us ... we appreciated so much that we decided that we would be back to spend the last day to relax before you share!
In the afternoon we arrived in Rothenburg o.d. Tauber (there is a comfortable highway that connects to Füssen, the romantic is nice for the landscape but rather 'not for the traffic that slows down a lot of travel time).
Here we soggionato in a hotel (Kreuzerhof) which was not much to our liking, not very adherent to the presentation at: the economy (double: € 54) but rather 'squallidino.
The country, however, is truly beautiful.
Interesting:
- The museum of historical times, in City Hall, which also provides access to certain rooms of the old prisons
- The Christmas shop largest in the world is truly a unique show!
- The walls, walked
- Doors and gardens
- The churches and if you are interested in the genre, the crime museum
Day 3: morning in Rothenburg o.d. Tauber and afternoon dedicated to the visit of the smaller countries:
Nördlingen, built in the crater left by a meteorite: nice but very similar, small, in Rothenburg;
Donauwörth, characteristic for its main street: very nice for the colorful houses, but nothing more
Schongau: toccata and fugue, because we got everything that was already closed and there seemed to be so particular.
In the evening we returned with pleasure to the Romantic Pension and we dined in Füssen.
Day 4: relax on the lakeshore in Schwangau, Füssen lunch, past purchases and go home ...!
