A fortnight in Kos

We have, in years gone by, popular in Greece, by car, motorcycle, or sailing.
This year, by grandparents, in the company of a lovely granddaughter, with a view to a more peaceful vacation to gratefully accept the invitation of a friend who owns a beautiful villa on the island of Kos, not far from the homonymous capital.
Left at 12 on July 8, from Rome Fiumicino airport, an hour late, with Olympic, we landed in Athens at about 14. After a long, boring wait at the airport, take off with a plane of the same company. The flight was delayed, as we had been reported by e-mail, we landed, therefore, the airport island in the evening. We expect friends who transport us to the goal with their car.

The villa that welcomes us was designed by an architect friend of mine, very well thought out and located in a panoramic position in the middle of land cultivated with citrus and olive trees, rich with many flowers.
Enjoying the favor of the accommodations described, are not able to provide information and make judgments about the range of hotels and into apartments and camping sites, but the impression from the outside is good.
There is a small Catholic church in Kos, where functions are celebrated in Latin, and readings in various Western languages.
Kos is probably not the most beautiful Greek islands, but it deserves to be known, discovered day by day I showed unexpected surprises at first glance, it is placed in another position with respect to many other islands and a step away from the coast Turkish. To enjoy the island should be a means of transport, to overcome the distances derived from its extension and its elongated shape, but many are car rental services of all types, from prestigious cars to mini-scooter. Several lines of boats, catamarans and hydrofoils connect Kos to Turkey and to the islands. The seas that surround it are suitable for boating, sometimes made hard by the strong winds that often blow it.
Who knew, me among them, the Greece of years gone by surprise will have many reasons, some good some not, much has been homogenized to the international style, customs and products, is a bit 'of everything like us. By ordering a coffee should be specified if you want to Greece, offering pasta with meat sauce and pizza, but if you want to eat at the Greek is more than possible. The prices above are no longer so incredibly convenient, but if you order salsiki, koriatiki salt Meatballs, Kalamaria, mussakas and a glass of Rezina, I will quarried with more or less ten euros, a coffee but will pay two euros!.

The castle is impressive testimony to a past that has seen multiple domains.
Wonderful Patmos, where we arrive in about two hours by hydrofoil, survives the onslaught of tourism intrusive. We get surprised by the bid of sightseeing in autopulman to visit the monastery built in the footsteps of St. John the Evangelist, we feel a bit 'as tourists intruppati we know in our city: Rome, tourists seem a little ridiculous.
