After a quiet flight with departure from Bologna we arrived late afternoon at the airport of Mykonos, where there was no welcome to the heat that we expected, but a very strong "Melteni" the typical wind blowing in the area of cyclades that not only is very strong but also very cold. We were loaded onto the bus and then taken to the San Marco Hotel (4 stars) located 4 km from the town of Mykonos. The hotel is very beautiful and located overlooking the sea, but the beach made of large stones is not busy, too awkward and beaten by strong winds. We decided to predict only the B & B to be able to eat every night at will in the center of Mykonos, given that the offer is very varied and decidedly more "exciting" that stay at the hotel. The next morning after a good rest we went downtown with the bus and so we have begun to familiarize themselves with the place and things that deserve to be visited. The wind was blowing very strong for almost the whole week, fortunately, there has always accompagneto the sun and eternally blue sky.
The town of Mykonos is beautiful, the houses are completely white in traditional greek style, the domes of churches sometimes blue sometimes red give a touch of color to everything. In restaurants on the harbor, the bars of the "little venice" and among the narrow alleys is where a frenetic and colorful lifestyle of the place. Fortunately, it turns to September, well, there is no need to code the prices are even lower. We ate in several restaurants in the center (eg, Niko's, Kounelos) is typical Greek (moussaka or souvlaki) and fish, all very good and prices in line with those of Italian restaurants. Pert regarding visiting the island, we almost always used the local bus from the town of Mykonos you carry any beach in the cost per course of 90 cents. Only one day we took the car for hire (30 euros) to visit all areas of the island (especially north) are not reached the bus. The island is about 30-35 km. long and 15-20 wide which does not require special time to visit. The beaches to the south are the most beautiful and popular, the sea is blue, the water crystal clear even if a little cold in September, and are all equipped and serviced by restaurants and bars with music. The most beautiful and equipped are Psarou, Plati Gialos, Ornos, Paradise and Super Paradise, as always to the south of Kalo Livadi, Lia and Kalafati are decidedly less popular but equally beautiful and spacious. The beaches to the north (Panormos, Ftelia, Fokos) I think are more wild, with virtually no equipment suitable for those who have a stronger contact with the harsh nature of the landscape and adapt (to Fokos) for serfisti. A Panormos while to get off the beach will see a small restaurant semicoperto, stop !!.... is a fantastic place to eat fish with great sea views.
For other countries on the part Mykonos worth a quick visit to the village of Ano Mera with its ancient Orthodox monastery. Finally we ask you to take one of several ferries that depart daily from the port of Mykonos to the island of Delos, where you can enjoy a full day to the ancient ruins of an ancient Greek city of the most important, beautiful ruins, statues and bas-well preserved, mosaics and more than evidence of a great civilization.
Greetings to all. ALDO
