Visit to Rhodes island, appreciating its typical aspect.

 

General considerations

An island that is surprising for the beauty of the landscape, the sea and some beaches on the mix between history and natural beauty.
A place to spend pleasant summer holidays thanks to hotel accommodation at prices not prohibitive, the tranquility of some great places nonostantela visitors and beautiful hikes you can do during the day.
The low traffic, good roads and low cost allow for easy movement with a rental car, the best way to discover the island.
In fact, with 50 euros you can rent a small for 3 days, the distances are short and good directions.
The main road connecting the city of Rhodes to Lindos, in a continuous up and down offering beautiful views of the coast, with brief detours can raggiungerealcune of the most beautiful beaches of the Mediterranean.
In general, the location near Lindos beaches offer more wild and less visited, although the majority of both pebbles or gravel. The north is invecemolto beaten by the wind and the sea is almost always smooth. The areas close to the Rhodes and Lindos are very popular.
In summer the climate is very hot, the sun is already high at 10 am and often the temperature is above 30 degrees, even if ventilation and low umiditàrendono that more bearable temperature. Easy windy days also find some 'annoying.
The easiest way to reach the island from Italy is to lean to the Tour Operator, with charter departing several days a week.
Personally, I traveled with Alpitour only for hotels that offer presented.

Hotel Lindos Princess

For our stay in Rhodes resort we opted for the Lindos Princess Hotel, near the village of Lardos, about 5 km from Lindos.
Treatment is all inclusive and the value for money is very high (late June, early July 65 euro per person all inclusive, children under 12 years stay free flight).
The structure is very beautiful, with a central body where the various services, restaurant, reception, etc., and a series of buildings with two floors that extend into the sea, surrounded by two huge swimming pools and several bars .
The sea is clear and often calm and the beach, sore, is to sand up to 5 meters from the shore, then turns boulders into the sea, making it a little 'difficult access.
The only thing to pay are the umbrellas at the beach
The food is good, with a buffet, but with little variety species at midday. Excellent in the morning instead. Upon booking you can also dine at the la carte restaurant. In the evening, at the main restaurant you can dine outdoors on a pleasant terrace
During the day you can eat freely at the point and snack bar and all of the complex. The sera from the classic animation nell'anfiteatro village.
A place especially for children, with ample space and a playground where you can run freely and safely.
Outside the hotel are only a couple of restaurants and shops, but at about 2 km there is the small but distinctive center Lardos, with several local restaurants (be careful though, because a grilled fish we paid 35 euro , very good but a little 'expensive).
We also have a decidedly economic car hire, especially if compared with the rates of tour operator catalogs; particularly convenient definitely hire for 3 consecutive days.

Rhodes city

The part of the medieval city of Rhodes, about 50 km. from Lindos, is the most important stage of a trip to this island.
Proclaimed the right of "Heritage of UNESCO", the city, thanks to its strategic position, it was always found at the center of major historical events, where all the great civilizations of the past have left the track.
Immediately we are struck by the intact walls that itself represented one of the most significant and spectacular of the city, with its picturesque port of entry.
Along the Viale dei Cavalieri overlooking beautiful medieval buildings, the most grandiose of which is the Palace of the Great Masters, but it is more pleasant to walk in the winding alleys, with its shops and local governments and the streets packed with people sitting in bar outdoors.

Petaloudes

Halfway between Lindos and Rhodes, a road inside the door through a mountainous area, reaching Petaloudes.
This is an oasis of cool in the midst of the torrid summer heat of Rhodes, in the middle of a forest, leaving the paths surrounded by beautiful lakes, waterfalls and streams, but the main attraction of the place is that from mid-June to mid-September, the valley is populated by thousands and thousands of butterflies in flight from a tree to another, offering a rare natural spectacle.
The tour lasts about an hour and admission fee (about 3 euros) and would be better to schedule the visit in the morning early to avoid crowds get too much, which would make it less pleasant to walk.

Lindos

In my opinion, the trip more pleasant and characteristic is Lindos: We visited during the day, with the climb the Acropolis, and the evening to wander among the typical stradinepiene shops and restaurants.
You can park your car in the parking lots, the more comfortable it is at the end of the road coming from Lardos. Then, after a short walk to the village, we reach the stairs leading to the Acropolis. The route is very pleasant and offers charming views of the country and its beautiful bay, is nothing difficult so much so that also made my son of 3 years. (alternatively you can go up on donkeys).
The entrance fee is about EUR 6, and the acropolis is situated in spectacular location on top of a cliff, which makes it unique is the landscape, both in the ruins to visit.
Before boarding the flight of stairs leading to the majestic Palace of the Governor through the great portico, you can see what remains of the famous vessel Lindo, carved into the rock. Then the 2 most important temples, one of Minerva and Athena in the Doric style.
You are strongly advised to visit the acropolis early in the morning, because the heat would make it unbearable to visit and the climb has no points of shade.
If Lindos is fascinating by day, the evening is even more: running aimlessly in the streets looking for some souvenirs and stop in one of the many local sip something refreshing, because here is quite hot even at night.

The Golden Beach

Among the beaches that I saw on the island of Rhodes, the most beautiful in my opinion remains the GOLDEN BEACH, between ARCHANGELOS and Kolimbia.
Accessible by car via a dirt road of about 700mt, is a beach of fine sand, water, and always calm, surrounded by rocks on the sides where you can also enjoy the snorkelling.
The only new is that the beach is quite equipped with beds (6 euros per day umbrella + 2 sun beds), refreshment points, so people get to clusters.
The morning until 10, however, is half empty (at least at the end of June). A short walk on the rocks, watching the sea on the left, you climb on top of a hill and overlooking the beach is really beautiful.
So beautiful that we have come twice.

Prassonissi

Another pleasant excursion is one that leads to the southernmost tip of the island, about 50 km from Lindos, where a small island is connected to the coast by a thin strip disabbia, which depending on the tide, it becomes accessible on foot or completely covering of water.
The particular exposure to winds, which blow here with insistence, it makes the one hand, the sea remains calmissimo, while the other is moved in any case, a paradise for surfers.
