Me and my boyfriend we chose Budapest as a destination of our (brief) summer vacation for two main reasons: we wanted to go by train and we did not have much money available. In fact, Budapest is a very beautiful and very affordable! People are always friendly and helpful, public transport is working fine capillaries and in the evening in certain areas would be afraid to go out alone but I think this is the same in every city.
We spent in total, counting the purchase of souvenirs, about 480 € each.

Regarding the choice of the train I would not recommend it to others: the journey was the biggest expense of the trip, well 207 € per person, and it was very uncomfortable. We took the Euronight departing from Venice Santa Lucia at 21.20 and we were woken up repeatedly for control of documents, and four times in the night!

We stayed at the hotel "Hotel Detty" and we were very good, we spent only 83 euro per person for 5 nights including breakfast and the room they gave us was clean and nice! And 'situated in the fourteenth district, but by bus No. 7 or 7E (faster) you can reach downtown in less than 20 minutes.

Not to be missed are the Parliament, St. Stephen's Basilica, the Synagogue (of which we have not visited the interior), Opera (the "agreement" proposed at the end of the visit is a bullshit catch-tourists) Chain Bridge and relax for a nice ride on Margaret Island, suggest at least an afternoon at the spa: we went to the Szechenyi Baths and we have spent € 12 each.

A note of credit also goes to food, we always ate well on a budget!
If you do not like cheese attention because they are made a bit 'all over the world, especially the sour cream, paprika is also omnipresent.
In the center there are a lot of fast-food restaurants ... never seen so many together!
For a quick meal should go to the Great Market Hall in Pest, upstairs there are many stalls where strafogarsi spending € 3-4.
We tried three restaurants:
"Regos Vendeglu" Szofia utca 33 in District VI,
"Kiskakukk" Pozsonyi utca 12 in District XIII,
"Arany Barany Étterem" Harminaad utca in District V 4.
We had more than good in all three. The first two are not much tourism although there is a menu in English and the staff is friendly and the third is near Vorosmarty Ter (Square at the end of Vaci utca) and is a bit 'more expensive (still much less than in Italy) but the food really good, there is also musical entertainment.
Even the desserts are sold a bit 'everywhere: crepe, stuffed pasta, ice cream ...
We've been twice to the "Café Gerbaud," have many good cakes too!
