A day at Montalbano Elicona, a delicious village of Sicily. Trip to Italy
Montalbano Helicon we reached in a sunny Sunday in early summer, taking the Palermo-Messina motorway, exit at the Falcone and then taking the road-Belvedere-S.Barbara Montalbano for about 18 Km
The air was good, despite the muggy heat. Once in Montalbano we were immediately struck by the kindness of a tourist information industry professionals who offered to accompany us, even with their own transport, the Castle of Frederick II.
The historical town offers many glimpses of art and churches abound in very fine pieces.
A delicious lunch of local produce, we enjoyed the restaurant Head Water (ctd. Melizzano - 98065 Montalbano Elicona - ME - tel: 0941 679577), just above Montalbano. The name of this restaurant is the fact that nearby there is a mineral spring, which is bottled and sold at a bit 'everywhere.
The local products are provole and bread. But the c.d. cheese majorkino, the delicious sausages (salami and ham) nebrodi black pigs. In the field craft worthy of note are the wrought iron furniture, carved stone, embroidery.
Also worth seeing are the megaliths and all the picturesque spots which, on that Sunday in June, gave us a very special Sunday.
