We spent 2 days with one night in Naples, but as always when we go in this city, we also try to visit something in the neighborhood. There seemed to be too close to the time to set foot on decantatissima Capri, so we opted for Procida, an island that we liked a lot, also because it is off the beaten track of mass.
She can be reached by ferry or hydrofoil from that, the Beverello or Mergellina. We took a hydrofoil from Beverello, it still took about fifty minutes, and concluded its run in Ischia.
We arrived mid morning and we went straight to the top, in search of Terra Murata, old town from where you see a wonderful view on Naples, Ischia and Capri.
By chance we found indications for the Abbey of St. Michael the Archangel, where, for 3 € per person, a group of well-trained volunteer, takes visitors into the Church and in the basement, managed in less than an hour to transmit both love for their island, with all its traditions that a lot of interesting information about what is stored in this casket.
Leaving the church, we went down to the marina Chiaiolella: a bay in miniature, with houses of all seafood pastel colors, the many restaurants overlooking the sea, where many boats are placed in a timber and not the usual rich and modern motor boats. A true romance.
We chose the place that we convince more and we ate excellent fish for little money: that is quite unusual in an island! Unfortunately I'm not sure of the name, but it seems to me that the owner and chef was called Joan, was still family owned. After a good limoncello, we headed to the port to catch the ferry back, down the street after buying bread and buffalo mozzarella from us back to Rome, all the while economic and, above all, great!
Undoubtedly it was a trip too short, but at least we got a first idea of this modest and fascinating other island in the Gulf. So: to come back!
