I have passed many times from this region directly in other cities and on some occasions I have visited areas as a step towards other places or with dedicated tour.
The part of the Apennines bordering Tuscany and Emilia is why on some occasions was an appendix to stay Abetone mountains (see Pistoia province) during constituency weeks ". In fact, in one step from the Abetone in area Dogana Nuova, where as a boy I also stayed in a hotel, you enter Emilia and from there a few km you reach the characteristic of mountain villages and Fiumalbo Pievepelago. I reached the latter country once even from Garfagnana (see itinerary on) along the road of Passo delle Radici passed through Sant'Anna Pelago. A Center Pievepelago sonostato Tennis Federation where he trained my daughter in the summer.
Emilian Apennines have always been several times in Porretta Terme, a child for treatment, as a boy to revisit these places linked to childhood and adult a time of transition and two pears to accompany my mother to the baths. When I came here with my mother for the care uh hotels we stayed in a village called Castelluccio foothill and from there organize short trips because Porretta did not offer anything special but the modern spa, a few movies and a little old town divided by a stream. One of the most interesting itineraries provided through Lizzano Vidiciatico in Belvedere and the visit to the Shrine of Our Lady dell'Acero and the nearby waterfall reached by a path. Another excursion that Scaffaiolo Lake, a typical high mountain pond, the Shrine of Our Lady of Beech reached directly from Castelluccio and along the valley road Riola where there is a futuristic church designed by famous Finnish architect Alvar Aalto as well as on a hill, a castle can be visited at the time but rather neglected. Further down below you meet Marzabotto with archaeological remains and memories of the massacre perpetrated by the Nazis during the Second World War.
Also in the Apennine area, but somewhere else, Serramazzoni, where I went to work as a reporter for a competitive mountain biking and Borgo Taro stage of a short break when I was a soldier in nearby Lunigiana in Tuscany.
These are the Apennines, and the rest of Emilia?
Piacenza offers a large central plaza pleasant to visit while in the Province I climbed the road to stop doing Bobbio for work in Rivergaro. Bobbio foothills is an ancient town with a bishop's palace and a couple of beautiful churches, linked to the memory of St. Columban and St. Anthony Gianelli. Following the road you can go and enter the watershed of the Apennines in Liguria, returning to Piacenza you can stop and instead Grazzano Visconti's spectacular medieval village in which there are shops and restaurants in a themed period. Or you might take another dip in the middle ages a bit less artificial Castell'Arquato where there is a village and almost intact so characteristic that has been often used for film set in that era. The village is dominated by a castle very nice visit inside. The province of Piacenza was visited by visits in recent years for business travel.
Parma also a beautiful old town very elegant and beautiful palaces. In front of the Duomo is a fine show a distinctive octagonal baptistery, the Palazzo Ducale and the park is now home to the famous Carabinieri Res. I had been on a school trip to Parma as a boy but I have recently returned to stroll through the elegant streets in front of historic monuments like the Teatro Regio and visiting the Museum of puppets, one of the few of its kind.
In the Province had been several years earlier with some friends in Salsomaggiore Terme to watch the final European Championship hockey track. Before the game I walked through the well-kept public parks of the city while returning I stopped for dinner in nearby Wertheim.
Reggio Emilia, Rubiera and Correggio are the cities of the Province of Reggio where I was, all for work and visit without much enthusiasm.
Definitely more beautiful Modena, this visit due to business trips to one of them during the press conference for the presentation of a sporting event was received in the Palazzo Ducale. In the Province spent a day in Serramazzoni as a reporter to follow a race of mountain biking and I have been a couple of times in Carpi for work.
Bologna would merit a visit more careful on my part, the two times I was there (on a school trip as a child and for work in '89) I still have allowed a walk to Piazza Grande and the ascent of one of the two towers of the donkeys. In the Province soak Crevalcore for work is too low to judge.
Finally, the Province of Ferrara has two beautiful jewels: the eponymous town and the Abbey of Pomposa.
Ferrara is dominated by its turreted castle surrounded by a moat which was the home of the Este family, also has a large beautiful square which is overlooked by some of the most significant monuments of the city among them being the facade of the Duomo.
In the Province Abbey Pomposa is an austere building of ancient origin in the inner wall frescoes telling us of its glorious past. A stop at Pomposa is an enrichment for the spirit and culture. The area of Ferrara, I visited only in recent years as an intermediate step towards other places.
To see the other provinces of Emilia Romagna "Romagna"
