An healthy holiday in Orvieto and Guardea. Umbria region, Italy

40. my first 40 years. actually several months have passed since birthday but now (for a specific choice) I decided to "open" the gift received from friends of a living being smartbox. fantastic ..! a gift that I appreciate very much because it really sewn into my skin. travel and relaxation are a must at holiday time for me, the best choice they could do ..!
study long and hard about where to go because the proposals are so many and spread throughout Italy. and Matthew? we bring with us? let the grandparents? sudden the answer comes: we have never traveled without Matthew, do not be cute, we miss you too tralaltro therefore the structure must be able to accept children. after studies, analysis and assessment, decide to spend the long weekend in a two steps away from Orvieto: Inncasa. access to the spa is reserved for adults only, but the two outdoor pools are open to all: great for Teo.

1st day

CATHEDRAL
Visiting what is known as the masterpiece of Gothic architecture in central Italy has a price. Tickets cost of the Cathedral and the Chapel of St. Brizio is 3.00 €. Only € 2.00 but frankly cathedral for un'euro really worth to see the chapel known for its grandiose apocalyptic scenes devoted to the coming of the Antichrist, the End of the world, the resurrection of the flesh and the Last Judgement.
That leaves a bit puzzled is the practice of charging for entering places of worship. Abroad is much more widespread (see London), in Italy irritated and annoyed. € 0.50 to illuminate the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament is another form of profit very little appreciated and indeed very stylish.
obviously in the pictures is prohibited. to round off this nice picture, the dome is lit at night so do not see ..! how sad ..!

TASTE
off Barzini 7
Mixed platter with mozzarella, burrata, goat cheese, anchovies, cherry tomatoes, toasted bread, ham and other meats € 16. expensive but worth it as quite tasty.
bread basket of € 1.5 (very honest). to be a coffee ice cream prices are a bit high but the location has its cost. the taste is in a nice square, between the Duomo and Corso Cavour, in the shade of a magnificent magnolia.

ST ANDREW
the visit actually very fast, the Renaissance church of St. Andrew appears to be quite pleasant. both for the cool inside, and the fact that we can sit down to give Matthew a little breath.

described as the best cake shop in Orvieto, we have stopped just to get ice cream so good but not exceptional. Unfortunately, given the heat and just eaten lunch we did not try the desserts.

DINNER Inncasa
for this dinner we decided to stay at the hotel. good choice could not do. the tables are outdoors near the pool with views over Orvieto lit lit (the cathedral is dark). the much sought after kitchen with local products, we ate very well. it must be said that the restaurant is expensive, but the money is well spent. (€ top 10, second € 16, € 6 cakes). What we got: panzanella by the glass (on the house), hand-cut ham and a selection of cold meats;
grilled sirloin of beef with vegetable caponata, grilled skewers of meat mixed with fried potatoes with rosemary, crunchy cannoli with raspberry mousse and lemon cream, cream of tartar gragole milk and dark chocolate fondue. Matthew Good for a rich dish of pasta with fresh tomato sauce. excellent all the dishes. only negative, not due to management is the lack of lighting on the dome that night in the stands as a sad presence that dominates the valley.

2° giorno

POZZO DI SAN PATRIZIO
Il nome del Pozzo fa riferimento all'abisso irlandese dove era solito pregare San Patrizio. L'accesso all'acqua è fornito da due rampe elicoidali a senso unico, completamente autonome e servite da due diverse porte, che consentivano di trasportare con i muli l'acqua estratta senza ostacolarsi. Per incoraggiare un titubante Matteo, non troppo convinto all'incedere, gli diciamo che forse troveremo dei nanetti che
prendono l'acqua. la visita non dura molto però è piuttosto piacevole ed in una giornata calda, risulta una buona idea per godere di un pò di fresco.

Orvieto UNDERGROUND
"Una piacevole visita guidata che si snoda lungo un agevolissimo percorso, consente di conoscere i sotterranei
di Orvieto, realizzati dagli antichi abitanti in circa 2500 anni di ininterrotti scavi. Un viaggio di un'ora alla scoperta di una millenaria, sorprendente ed inattesa "Città Sotterranea".
visita davvero molto piacevole ed agevole (a parte un paio di cunicoli di accesso un pò stretti che potrebbero risultare claustrofobici). vivamente consigliata, quasi imperdibile.

Guardea
20° sagra degli gnocchi di Guardea. troviamo le colandine della sagra sparse per le vie di Orvieto (un bell'esempio di concorrenza leale). l'idea ci piace. sabato sera si mangia..! ecco la nostra frugale cena. Gnocchi: al pomodoro, ai funghi e tartufo, all'amatriciana. Grigliata di agnello (cotolette e arrosticini). Patate fritte. Acqua gasata. Coca-Cola. Tutto molto buono e gustoso a parte due elementi di disturbo che hanno messo alla prova la nostra resistenza nervosa: il vento (sul tavolo è caduto di tutto) e la band di luca che a tutto volume eseguiva le prove per i balli collettivi del dopo cena. per fortuna siamo partiti prima risparmiandoci lo strazio visivo-uditivo di questi balli.

3° giorno

Caffé Bar Montanucci
E' la più vecchia caffetteria di Orvieto nel cuore della città. L'ambiente presenta decorazioni in legno e pavimento con il tipico "sanpietrino". Tra le varie proposte culinarie ci sono il caffè (senza infamia e senza lode, servito da uno scorbutico barman), dolci fatti a mano, cioccolata (di tutti i tipi e provenienza). per mangiare ci si può sedere sia sulla terrazza esterna (molto piacevole), che all'interno. buono il tris di primi (6,80€ cad, prezzo onesto): riso allo zaferano con pomodori secchi, panzanella, pasta al pesto con pomodorini pachino (idea subito copiata a casa per una cena tra amici).
