Back again in Umbria region! Five days in Orvieto and Todi, Italy
Località: Orvieto, TodiRegione: Umbria Stato: ITALY (IT)
We returned again in Umbria, to see a part that we have not seen, Orvieto and Todi. Orvieto is located in a picturesque location, on a tuff cliff surrounded by rolling hills covered with vineyards, olive groves etc. .. Council to visit the cathedral, Orvieto underground shaft s. Patrick, the dark tower. The cathedral is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture in central Italy, you pay to enter. Beautiful interior dome with a beautiful chapel known for its grandiose apocalyptic scenes. Pozzo S. Patrick. For an additional fee. access to the shaft is made from 2-way spiral ramps, and completely self-served from 2 different ports that enable it to carry the water extracted by two mules unhindered. Orvieto Underground. I suggest a tour of about an hour that winds in the city of Orvieto, built by the ancient inhabitants of 2500 years of excavations. A visit pleasant and surprising and unexpected. Underground city, full of caves interconnected. There were old mills to the oil wells in the caves, very useful in time of war, and pigeon, as the breeding of pigeons. Todi also nice but 'low-key.
