I went to Rimini with Rita 17 to 30 August 2011, I wanted to do the classic beach life, leaving her backpack, also mindful of the memories of the past, is also proposed to explore the area but I had not reckoned with the period of the African heat .
Rimini has not changed much, the big beach, bathrooms equipped swimmers playing soccer. beach volleyball, the promenade, Viale Regina Elena shops for tourists, too bad you have to share the sidewalks with cyclists.
I noticed that the average age of tourists has increased and that exposes some restaurant menus in Russian.
Rimini is not much to young people, in fact, the evening moved to Riccione and Gabicce where clubs are located "in" even using the line 11 which connects the historic center of Rimini, Riccione and works all night.
In the morning we made beach life, while at night we often went to watch the debates MobyCult the exhibition, which was held in a marquee on the pier, near the Dolphinarium increasingly popular in the tent young authors presenting their books, but also took part in the famous faces television talk shows, the presentation follows a debate, is an event that is held every year and I find it very interesting, even some bathrooms organize meetings and debates with guests tasting products, dances, fireworks.
During the Fair was held the Annual Meeting, is very large, many young people in various fields are held conferences and meetings, in the vast halls, stalls of sponsors, bars, restaurants, exhibitions with young people serve as guides.
Rimini, however, is not only sea and beach or conferences, but the center has a significant historical and artistic heritage not to be missed.
With Rita, I reached the old town with the bus 11, then I came along a pedestrian path to the Malatesta Temple, the most famous monument, built and designed by Leon Battista Alberti, there are renovations going on, thankfully the beautiful marble facade is completely visible, the rest is covered, even inside, the ceiling is covered, the interior is great, a single nave with side chapels, with notable works of art, the most important quote attributed to Giotto, a crucifix on the apse , can be admired in the chapels, among others, a fresco by Piero della Francesca, the bas-reliefs of Agostino di Duccio and a painting by Vasari.
Continuing along the pedestrian street, we come to the Three Martyrs Square, Square in part decorated with capitals, very quiet, with shops, bars with outdoor seating, pedestrian, dominated by the Clock Tower, on the same side is the Temple S. Anthony of Padua, a small and unique octagonal building of the sixteenth century, which from afar seems newsstand newspaper closed.
The square is crossed by Augustus, that connects two large works, at the two ends, reminiscent of Roman origin, the Arch of Augustus and Tiberius Bridge, which still connects Rimini in San Giuliano.
Augustus along the course is nice, if you go to the Square Arch, the look is quite modern with chic shops of designer labels, while Tiberius towards the bridge and the city has an ancient appearance, is nearby the Piazza Cavour.
Piazza Cavour is considered the living room of the city, the rectangular square surrounded by buildings that I believe is Renaissance, the Palazzo Arengo oldest although in time it has undergone many changes, the best thing I thought was the Fontana della Pigna (sixteenth century .), formed by three concentric circles on three levels, of different ages, with Romanesque reliefs, the pine cone on top of the fountain of the nineteenth century, next to a statue of the seventeenth century of Pope Paul V.
In the same area is the church of S. Augustine, of Romanesque origin (thirteenth century.) Has undergone many changes, the interior has a nave, I felt like the Baroque style, in the chapel near the apse you can admire the magnificent frescoes unfortunately bad way, but are among the most beautiful things I've seen
We also visited the Museum to see the temporary exhibition "Wisdom shines" where they were exhibited paintings and wooden sculptures depicting the Madonna saved from the earthquake in Abruzzo.
A stone's throw from the museum is an archaeological area inside which were found many surgical instruments used at that time.
Some practical information: travel by train with the white arrow, the InterCity new name, which lasted about 4.30 hours (Mini-tickets)
Hotels: Hotel Augustus, good, Euro 60 per day PC, including beds on the beach
I only used public transport.
