Near Christmas we decided to make a puntatina at a flea market in South Tyrol and take advantage of it to spend a few days in the great outdoors. The choice has fallen on Merano, which we reached in time for lunch. Systematic pension Vallreis a Schenna (5 km. Merano above) at a time we started our Christmas shopping, the bus (why try parking?) Connecting Schenna in Merano every hour until 19.00. The marketplace dell'avvento Meran is located in a sunny position on the promenade along the river Passer. The colors and smells have invaded us from the very beginning, we tried all sorts of specialty sandwich from the roast lamb at the strudel from milk chocolates filled with gingerbread and we admired and bought Christmas decorations of every shape, material and color and many artefacts to bring gifts to relatives and friends.
The afternoon was then animated by Knups (the devils that on the evening of St. Nicholas take away children who were not good) that have the children run after them and sbeffeggiavano around 17.00 when the temperature began to fall and the crowd to rise, we have abandoned the market to continue our tour along the lovely arcades of Merano and the visit to the castle.
Sunday morning we avoided the chaos of the marketplace and we started to explore the Val d'Ultimo.
E 'a closed valley that ends with the Fontana Lake Blanche, is a few km from Meran Lana direction and gave us the opportunity to spend a day exploring its beauty. First arrived in town: San Pancrazio, as we were transported back in time, with painted houses, the church on the square and aluminum containers for milk outside the door, waiting to be filled. Here in San Pancrazio, just outside the village, on the left beyond the river, you leave the car to visit a strange "little house on the rock." We head towards the forest, where past a stream, there is the "Häusl am Stoan" that the legend as the only house left standing because it built on a rock after a flood took away all the land surrounding lowering the level of 3 meters. It 'really see this unique house, which in summer is still inhabited, clinging to a boulder.
Returned to the car we are broken down to trace the valley and the village of St. Nicholas, before arriving in San Geltrude on the left close to a kind of bus station, there is an indication for "larici millennium." Leaving the 'car, we started a cheerful walk in the snow for about 20/25 minutes and you have that in front of us stood out the silhouettes of giant 3 larici that have an age ranging from approximately 1950 to 2050 years ... but we think about how many things they have seen? Enormous and we are 6 in the circle, we have failed to embrace the bigger picture. The logs are hollow and you are comfortably inside; around there are also tables and benches for a picnic of course ... when the season allows. Returned on our steps will then continue along the valley and come to an end, more than San Geltrude until Lake Fontanabianca that stretches before us completely covered with snow and ice. After a look at the lake and its surroundings and a tasty meal along the way back we see a great toboggan run and a noleggiatone so we conclude this wonderful day to run along with the kids, up and down the runway.
The last day to avoid the interminable queues that would be formed shortly, starting in the morning and make a stop first in Trento, the Pyramids of Segonzano. Even here a significant ascent takes us about half an hour to reach the three viewpoints from which you can admire these formations which erosion and time have made a similar pinnacles on top with a stone that looks like a hat there, supported by someone! And so ended our long weekend, to discover another beautiful corner of Italy.
