Cicero in Turin!
On a rainy Sunday in November, a friend who did not know came to visit Turin, thereby giving me the opportunity, never before experienced, to act as my guide through the city. Starting from mid-morning, and not having the ambition to include visits to museums or exhibitions, we started our tour from the Fountain of the Months, located at the southern entrance of Parco del Valentino on the Po This fountain, built in late '800 , consists of a large oval tub adorned with twelve statues of female figures, each representing one month of the year, there is a bubbling waterfall flows from the upper terrace, where there are other statues that symbolize the four rivers of Turin (Po, Dora, Stura and Sangone). Well worth a visit because it is beautiful and will capture your attention for a long time. Get away from the fountain, we went along the bike path for miles along the Po, the usual destination for runners and bikers at all hours and all year round. It is worth walking at least once, and especially in this fall season where the diversity of colors of the leaves, gives his best as to atmosphere.
We could not miss a visit to the medieval village that, while a reproduction of an 'old castle, has a certain charm especially when there were few people. After the tour, we took the car and we moved ahead, on the other side of the Po after parking we have reached on foot within several minutes, the Monte dei Cappuccini to admire the panorama of the city in the fog. Here is the baroque church of Santa Maria al Monte, and a convent of Capuchin friars, according to some writings, in 1600 during a French siege in the church a miracle would stop the invaders to take possession of Mt.
We are then back down and, after a stop for coffee, we crossed the bridge and reached the area of Murazzi. Here we see one of the most beautiful of Turin, which embraces a look at the dam Michelotti (recently restored), the Gran Madre di Dio church in the background and the Monte dei Cappuccini. The waterfall created by the dam is home to more sea gulls, cormorants and herons few times, his roar relaxes the mind and encourage deep meditation. The route then continued through the main streets.
Until next time!
