Cinque Terre tour: Riomaggiore. Liguria, Italy
Riomaggiore is the easternmost of the Cinque Terre, located in the narrow valley of the Rio Maior (covered) with which its course has led to the installation of the village. That, in recent decades while maintaining the original sea-farming vocation has said much to promote tourism, including for rapid communications with La Spezia.
We have not stopped a lot, just a few hours, but enough to enjoy the charm of a unique place.
The first town that comes from it Spezia Riomaggiore. Developed vertically, the country is crisscrossed by escalators and staircases that spread among the houses, lean against each other, and painted with typical Ligurian colors. The material of construction is local: the stones for the masonry, slate for roofs, plaster painted with yellow or pink for the walls. Under the main street the river runs Rivus Maior, which gives name to the village, the first news of which date back to about seven centuries ago.
In Riomaggiore began the famous Via dell'Amore, a path cut into the rock, overlooking the sea, which leads to Manarola, the second village lands 5. Along the romantic road, now known throughout the world, you can admire the beautiful landscape, you hear the sound of waves breaking on the rocks, is the inconfodibile salty. The pleasant location of the path, as obtained in the rocks overlooking the sea, makes the walk a very special nature. The feeling to be immersed completely in the landscape has been and is still so strong that probably the people decided to dedicate the way to the feeling of love. Poets and painters of fame, bewitched by this dall'incantesimo suspended between sky and sea, have found here the genius for many of their compositions.
