A country surrounded by the pastel green of olive groves, where tranquility is breathed step by step through the picturesque streets of the villages between which there are panoramic views of the sea and the mountains of Liguria: we have chosen for a relaxing day of walking and good food Boissano , located in the hinterland of Loanhead. According to one theory the name Boissano means "place of good pastures and healthy", description is undoubtedly true, but some believed that the name indicates a shrub once common in the Ligurian countryside.
However, the existence of this area is already talk in some scrolls of the thirteenth century, which is also mentioned Ravinet the mountain, the ancient Ravinerius, on whose lower slopes is Boissano.
We just take a walk downtown to realize how the scent of olives wrap these places even in a metaphorical sense. On the wall of City Hall reads a quote from Paul Canavese "Boissano, where the silver is dissolved in the land of olive trees reflected in mother of pearl", and even find a nearby olive tree "monumental", planted, as the plaque says, in memory generations of the cultivation of the olive boissanesi that have dedicated their lives.
We decide to explore the various districts of the country following the indications of an itinerary designed by elementary school children. So first of all visit the Parish Church of St. Mary Magdalene, in the main square, lined with a series of happy palms. On the way to admire the Chapel of Our Lady Loanhead Guard, while among the villages and Bosseri Well, we visit the lovely Chapel of Our Lady of Grace.
After visiting the ancient villages of Gandolfi and Gandarini, we move to Toirano, discovering the Chapel of St. Sebastian, between the villages of Pogli and wives at the beginning of the sixteenth century.
One of the main tourist-cultural itineraries of Boissano is leading to San Pietro dei Monti, nearly nine hundred feet high. There stood the monastery of St. Peter's, founded in the ninth century under Charlemagne. According to legend, St. Peter, to Rome, he would have stopped right there and impressed by the beauty of the place, which he thought suited for recollection, decided to erect the first church here in Liguria. The monks of St. Peter had a very important role in the life of the region helped to improve living conditions by introducing the cultivation of olives and vines, and building mills and crushers. In 1495 the monastery was abandoned and the weather unfortunately destroyed it. In its place, in a dominant position on the hill, now there is the church of San Pietrino.
After this long tour in the history of Boissano, we decided to cap off the day with a delicious dinner at the Restaurant Pizzeria The Oaks, Via Rive.
We settle in the spacious dining room which also has a large outdoor terrace with sea view, very pleasant during the summer when grilled specialties can be prepared directly in the big barbecue on the terrace. "Our kitchen follows the highly seasonal, and therefore our menu is always changing, using fresh produce at the time. The dough and the bread we make them ourselves at home and we are distinguished by the excellent value for money, "he says owner and chef Fausto Polycarp who runs the place with his wife Isabella, eight and a half years. Thanks to their efforts, the restaurant is experiencing its best period for decades now, enjoying an affectionate clientele.
We start with an appetizer rustic, with flour, vegetable pies, stuffed Ligurian. We taste even starter of trio of sea fish, shrimp, anchovies or other fish depending on the fresh fish, the cod and octopus pie with potatoes. We follow this by paccheri good with broccoli, shrimp and cheese fondue, the linguine with seafood, the pasta with clams and zucchini. Some of us take instead of the noodles with squid and artichokes and chestnuts, noodles, a seasonal delicacies. Part of our group opted for the delicious pizzas, all filled with top quality ingredients, and we continue with the fry, among the strongest of the local dishes. Also enjoy a nice grilled fish platter, made on the grill and the most carnivorous among us take the cut with rocket and gorgonzola cream. Let's water these goodness of the wines selected from all regions of Italy, but also with some good beer. We end our meal with desserts, all homemade, delicious tasting of desserts and puddings fresh cream with various sauces.
After this beautiful day we are sure to return soon to Boissano, a country which is also linked to Victor Brumotti for new walking and cycling, to be crowned with gargantuan dinners like tonight.
