Few hours in the castle of Calatabiano.. Trip to Sicily, Italy
One afternoon in late winter, when the air began to smell of spring has given birth to the idea of going to visit the castle of Calatabiano. To get to Castle Calatabiano simply take the ME-CT Highway and exit at Giardini Naxos, Catania until then continue to the fork in the road leading up to Calatabiano. There, atop a hill about 210m above sea level the castle stands. To access the manor, which is still under renovation and therefore not open, you have to take a steep climb. Almost to the piada the cliff on which stands the castle, there is the Church of the Holy Cross in 1484, also known as the Church of St. Philip Ciriaco (or Syriac, but sometimes also called Syriac), the town's patron and theater - the Saturday before the third Sunday of May - the so-called "Descent of St. Philip." The restoration of the castle, unfortunately, did not allow us to inspect it. However, we could breathe fresh air scented the first tentative hints of spring. The walk was a pleasure for the eyes, because of the beautiful landscape that can be observed: in the Alcantara Valley, on Mount Etna and the sea side, the plain on which it stands Giardini Naxos. A couple of hours relaxing, to be proposed as soon as the renovation of the castle is completed.
