Walk among the works of an exhibition in the open, breathing in the landscape that inspired the artist to see his works at every turn: Volpedo is one of the rare places where you can experience something like that. In fact, it was born here and worked with inarginabile passion and deep love for their land, the painter Giuseppe Pellizza, which would add to his signature the words "from Volpedo" inextricably to tie his name to their country.
We chose this small but famous town for a weekend getaway attracted by the fame of the painter, and found that his insight as an artist had done perfectly understand the reasons why it is still nice to be in Volpedo: it is immersed in a tranqillutà for those coming from the vibrant metropolis is priceless, the look can range anywhere for the green hills and countryside, the village you will discover monuments and corners full of history, not to mention the good food and wine of the proposed site. Volpedo fact, among other things is known for its peaches that ripen an intense and authentic, thanks to the wise choice of the producers of varieties, for a particularly long period of time.
If you want to do great things for our weekend we chose none other than a real house, the chapel, whose name is no accident: in the tabernacle is a real chapel, still consecrated. After settling into our rooms, elegant and refined, we're going to see it remain open-mouthed: the chapel, dating back to 1846 as the entire hotel is superbly renovated respecting the origin of the owners of La Spezia once, and maintains the Ligurian style alternating white and black, a feature that was a symbol of nobility in the Middle Ages.
Staying in the religious sphere, during one of our first walks we go to visit the famous Romanesque church of St. Peter, mentioned in documents as early as the tenth century. Inside there are frescoes of the late fifteenth century which are of great interest, probably the work of the brothers of Castelnuovo Scrivia BoxThe. Among the historical curiosities of Volpedo, we also visit the funeral stele of the first century, today set in a side wall of the parish rectory.
But undoubtedly the most famous Piazzetta Volpedo remains the Fourth Estate, opposite the Palace of the Malaspina, lords of the place which was directed against the social struggles of the late nineteenth century peasant. Right here is a painting set a symbol of the twentieth century, built in 1901 by Pellizza, from which the square is named. "The Fourth Estate", originally called "The Path of workers", depicts a strike, and within, the front line with the peasants marching toward the light, there is also a woman with the baby in her arms. Today, the reproduction of the painting, placed in the square, is clearly the most important artistic ideal part of that route from the artist's studio, today Volpedo compares with that of the painter's canvas.
Passing by the pleasures of the culinary art of painting than not we find it hard to choose the place to dine: The restaurant we go to Palman, at the house where we stay. We settle in the large, elegant room where they also organize weddings and other events, and while some of us opt for the menu "tasting water" and "tasting Piedmontese," the rest of the group chooses the dishes "a la carte". The high quality of the restaurant is guaranteed by the work of Chef Joseph Tierno, also awarded the prestigious Prix Cocorum Collegium.
We begin with a traditional rich appetizer with tartar castrated Piedmontese knife tip flavored with truffles, salami and cold cuts of Piedmontese gluttony. We continue with the hand made pieces of the game and venison, the essential agnolotti with braised in butter and sage and misdeeds with Piedmont Natural cheese fondue. When choosing the second we can only choose between these two hills known delicacies: sliced ??fillet in a crust of herbs Fassone with rocket and toma and Fassone fillet with porcini mushrooms. We accompany our dinner with fine wines selected from the area and national labels, and conclude the day, past the banner color art, with the sweet taste of the bonnet and the old chestnut. Some of our friends a harmony of taste with strawberry sorbet and berries. Furthermore, we taste a selection of cheeses with honey and jams.
We will return to the country of Pellizza during the season of peaches, juicy and sweet-smelling, whose pastel colors look a bit like 'the artist's works.
