Gubbio, Perugia and Panicale

Riccione left after 4 days at sea during which we just relaxed, we go in Umbria, Gubbio first stage. After 1 hour and a half away we arrive at the destination but unfortunately we find the center closed to traffic due to a rally: Unbelievable! So after parking in a narrow street we walked through a myriad of race cars roaring until you reach Via Cavour. Now that we are struck by the medieval atmosphere that reigns in these places and scents that come from various grocery shops that are located along the alleyways. After visiting the church of San Domenico we headed toward the center and we visited the Palazzo dei Consoli and the Praetorian Palace, then we got the lift down to the Duomo. From there we went walking along the streets back to the streets here and we bought a ceramic vase and a couple of sandwiches, we ate and went back to the car and headed Perugia. After parking we went to the center using the escalators, crossing the underground caves, coming out in Corso Vannucci. Here we walk admiring the Palazzo dei Priori, Fontana Maggiore and we visited the Duomo. From there we took a ride along the streets, buying bottles of wine and admiring the antiquity of these places. After a delicious ice cream we left to Panicale, a village in the countryside near Lake Trasimeno, where we stayed in the beautiful Country House La Lupaia where we ate well and rested well.

Assisi

Without breakfast we headed to Assisi, certainly the most beautiful city we visited. We started the visit starting from the basilica of S. Clear, then we went next to the church of S. Peter, finally going up to St Francis. Describe the air you breathe in these places is not easy, still seems to feel the presence of the saints who have lived there. Particularly affect the upper and lower frescos in the Basilica of St. Francis, but also the saint's tomb, the clothes worn by him and signed the letters. From there we went to the center of the country and we headed to the Cathedral, then back down to St. Clare, where we dined at a lovely restaurant. Leaving Assisi we headed to the Hermitage of the Prisons, which is located nearby on Mount Subasio. This was the place where St. Francis prayed and meditated together with his followers, you can cross the room and walk in the park, stopping at places of prayer such as the chapel in front of the holy tree. After leaving the monastery we headed to St. Maria degli Angeli, a fraction of Assisi basilica which dominates characterized by an imposing dome and a gilded statue of the Madonna, famous for its interior is the Chapel of the Porziuncola, that the original chapel where St. Francis used to pray In addition to the chapel where he died and the Rose Garden outside. After a pause and a good ice cream we got back to Panicale and after dinner we went to Lake Trasimeno Castiglione.

Orvieto and Spoleto

Without breakfast we headed to Orvieto. Here we had a little 'difficult to park in the end we went to a parking fee and how we got into the center in Perugia with the escalator coming out practically in the town square is located in a church famous for its octagonal tower . Thence along the pedestrian street in the center we arrived at the cathedral, really impressive, featuring a colorful facade. After the visit we headed to the famous St. Patrick's Well and we went through. From there we headed back downtown and had lunch in a typical little place, buying oil and wine. Then, back to the car, we headed to Spoleto, passing through beautiful valleys. Unfortunately we were not thrilled Spoleto, we found it very dirty. We toured almost getting lost in the alleys that cut into slices the center, we saw the Old and the New Theatre coming to the Cathedral and admiring from under the rock. Finally, after a stop for refreshment at the bar we went Panicale and we had dinner in front of a breathtaking sunset.

A piece of Tuscany...

Had breakfast and loaded the suitcases we left very sad to leave this beautiful place, but before returning home we took the opportunity to stop in Chianciano is located a few kilometers from Panicale. There, besides seeing many hotels and spas, we climbed into the old town and we had a stroll admiring the places where he lived for a short period Pirandello. The show can be seen surrounding valleys is truly enchanting. Without some inevitable culinary purchases we headed to Montepulciano, although only a few kilometers, and there we have come a part of the old cellars, shops and restaurants, of course, buying more wine and cheese, stopping finally at a fabulous restaurant where we dined divinely. Finally, in the early afternoon, we left dirigendoci finally back home.
