The Castromediano county museum in Lecce, Italy
Località:
LecceRegione: Puglia
Stato: ITALY (IT)
The provincial museum Castromediano Sigismondo di Lecce is located in a building called College Silver by Jesuit Father who founded it in 1888.
It was purchased by the Province of Lecce in 1967 and renovated by the museum project with Franco Minissi.
Retains the old facade and some interior areas where they have added new buildings.
Previously, from 1868 to 1979, the museum was accommodations in some rooms of the convent of Celestini.
The collections come from excavations already begun with the late Castromediano.
It is enriched with excavation campaigns financed largely by the Province of Lecce (Roca, Rudiae, Cavallino, Poggiardo). They offer a panorama of the civilization messapica staff in Salento.Acquisti, gifts, stores have added consistency and classes, so now the museum is divided into several sections: antiquarium, topographic museum, art gallery.
Panels, slides, drawings, photographs, surveys, arranged around the model of the Salento peninsula, to introduce each section, providing the elements essential to an understanding of historical and technical manufatti.Davvero an interesting way to spend a few hours and then need to consider that in addition to having good times and to have a holiday (we have visited on the Monday after Easter around 16) is completely free!
