I passed for the region on several occasions but once after returning from a trip to Sicily I stopped here for tourism. I was with a friend and my Fiat back when we left the highway to the peninsula to stay in Athens Lucana. The following day via Roccadaspide and waive reached Salerno Paestum to see the magnificent ruins of the temples of Magna Graecia. Difficult even in Greece we see the structures so well preserved in a lined side by side on a large lawn. From here we reach the Amalfi Coast. The road that runs through is very narrow, winding between mountains that plunge into the sea and seems to be suspended between the rocks and water. Not uncommon to find cars scratched on the side of rest area on the roadway is so little that driving is difficult. Paying close attention to transit at Vietri sul Mare, Maiori Minori and looking down the road, countries that are lapped by the sea, in part similar to those of the Cinque Terre in Liguria. Worth a detour inland to the village of Ravello, a real coastal terrace from which you have splendid views. No accident here arose aristocratic villas such as that we visit the garden. Down to the sea meets Amalfi, one of the four Maritime Republics, but also the beautiful village nestled on the coast with the beautiful church facade and marina. Further down the road we stop at the Emerald Grotto, a cave that is reached by a lift and underground that you visit by boat, the less famous but in my opinion more beautiful than that of Capri.
Recovered on the surface continue meeting after a few km the valley of Furore, a narrow inlet where fishermen admitted that their boats from crossing a bridge. Viewed from the road we reach Positano Sorrento where we stay in a hotel. The city has a raised part and another at sea, between one and the other opening of the chasm in the ground. The next morning we take the harbor ferry to Capri, where we visit the first characteristic center with the famous squares and streets full of shops, then walking along a track that will lead to the discovery of the natural arch and Le Corbusier. Back in town we take a circular to the other cities of the island, Anacapri, near which we visit the famous Blue Grotto. I went down with a staircase going up on a small boat where a seaman takes us inside the cavity. To enter the cave whose opening is often covered by the waves, you must bow its head, opens in a magnificent natural environment and enjoy the folk song vdel our sailor. Back to Anacapri reach the port of Marina Grande and take the ferry to Sorrento where we learn that due to a landslide on the road to Vico Equense is not possible to reach the north by land. We climb up on a ferry and landed at Castellammare di Stabia, a few kilometers from where we are at Pompeii. We visit the old city with its shrine to the Virgin then overnight in hotel. The next morning we visit the archaeological excavations, a large Roman city submerged in the lava of Vesuvius. Besides the remains of houses, squares, streets, buildings, monuments, temples, theaters and amphitheaters there are also those people petrified lava. The eruption has protected for centuries the ancient Pompeii, which looks like this now well preserved. The next day we take the train through typical Sorrentine atmosphere that brings us to Herculaneum in Naples offering beautiful views of Mount Vesuvius. See you at Naples Piazza del Plebiscite, Castel dell 'Ovo, Galleria Umberto I, Male Angevin, Spanish Quarters, Spaccanapoli, the Cathedral where he performs the "Miracle of San Gennaro," and the National Archaeological Museum. It 'nice to get lost in the alleys of the city where one can see the characteristic spots or where you see many Neapolitan cribs season where maybe instead of a pastor you can find the statue of Maradona. After the visit with the typical Sorrentine atmosphere back to the car and come home.
It was not the first time I visited the region. 85 I served in the military in Benevento and on days off duty I went with some fellow soldiers in Naples, on the slopes of Vesuvius, in the park of the Royal Palace of Caserta. I was also alone in Marcianise a couple of times, Messigno, Castellammare di Stabia and San Giorgio del Sannio. Obviously the car while I walked with friends over for Benevento, a city of Roman foundation where I was about three months.
In Naples and Capri have also been in 84 for a single day in a raid roundtrip from Rome.
Calabria and Basilicata are with the Molise region of Italy that I know less. There are, however, passed three times directly to the ferry to Sicily. Especially once I went into the center of Reggio Calabria for work purposes.
