There was once a poor woman named Clarice, who lived in the sixteenth century. Every day, preparing meals for her husband who was cutting wood on a hill, but their room was often quite poor. Once the lady baked a little 'herb of the field, but not having even the bread, put the herbs cooked in a basket and took the road towards the hill where her husband worked. When he got to the rocks, the point where the fun begins, he saw a woman of extraordinary beauty and kindness that he called by name and asked her a loaf of bread. Clarice said that gliel'avrebbe give him a bit 'of bread, but had nothing but herbs cooked. "Look in the basket!", Replied the woman. Clarice opened the basket and found it full of bread still warm. "Holy Virgin!", Said so, and she replied that she was exactly who was calling. The also said: "Go to grind here and tell everyone that I would like a church in my honor. You will put a throne of grace." In the coming years, there were also a number of miraculous healings in the area.

We get to grind a few minutes after leaving the motorway at Ovada. Take the road to Acqui Terme and turn left, following signs to the Shrine of Our Lady of the Rocks: Molar we chose for this trip out of town because we wanted to know the place of a Marian apparition so important. In the spot where the Virgin appeared to Clarice, was erected a large wooden cross, and later, in 1608 was built the nucleus of the Sanctuary, in 1661 and subsequently expanded in 1867. We arrive at the sanctuary, surrounded by green forests of the hills, reached by a picturesque tree-lined street. Once in front of the sacred building, the look can range for breathtaking scenery and you feel immersed in the serenity of nature.

The hills to admire here Molar, are part of the long mountain range that separates the Piedmont from Liguria. The two regions meet here and this contamination is well known in architecture as a table. The houses and streets of historic Ligurian Grind is reminiscent of those in their colors in them: here too we find many dead from mysterious atmosphere, under arches which once went by the horses, and as in many villages in the area, nemenno missing a beautiful sixteenth-century castle of the Conti-Gaioli Boidi. Molar originally had another castle, Castrum de Molariis of the Marquis del Bosco, but the ancient castle and its famous tower, unfortunately no record has survived.

Being on the border between Liguria and Piedmont, also emerges from the stories we tell local people. After visiting the sanctuary, easy to reach, in the nearby Borgo Peruzzi, a farm that overlooks the valley, offering stunning views over the Orba Valley. The place is called The Lighthouse and the name is not accidental: "We are in Genoa, and this scene always reminded us the lantern. When we came here, this place was an old fart. But we love the place and we had a project, so clear set our daughters Roberta and Fulvia, we have created a cottage, "say Daniel and Angela, the owners. Day after day admiring the view from their lighthouse, the family has become increasingly fond of this landscape and peasant traditions of the place. "It 's been our neighbor, the elder John Peruzzo, shy but genuine farmer, to convey the love for the land and animals. Thanks to him we have begun to raise some cattle, and although unfortunately he did not no more, I would be proud of us, "recalls Mr. Angelo.

While talking of this rural world imbued with poetry, and so far from the bustle of the city, Ms. Daniel has served us a delicious dinner taste a typical household an encounter between Piedmontese and Ligurian flavors. From starters to Piedmontese gnocchi al pesto, noodles with mushroom sauce from the veal with tuna sauce and stuffed vegetables, all the good things we ate was made by mom and her daughters Danielle, using fresh ingredients and genuine. Finally I had to make a nice fruit cake, light and delicious.

After our day to grind, come home in body and soul reborn. Among the "miracles" of the lighthouse and the legendary culinary history of the shrine, we are happy to have found a place so special, mystical charm and authentic flavors.
