It stands in a privileged panoramic view towards the Langhe on the hill of Roddi (CN). The castle dates back to 1100 and access is via the church square little lower. Formerly there was a moat and drawbridge, today little remains of the complex. Viewed from the outside you can see that there are two different blocks that make up the building, one is toward the valley and the other is to the church. The castle is on several floors, with a cylindrical tower, currently is home to some exhibition of paintings by artists of the place has not been renovated recently and is in apparent stage of decay. Admission is free and the tour is free, inside there is no furniture or other furnishings, there remain some fresco ceilings, wooden chests, some areas identified as kitchens and bakery. Even this castle, like that of Serralunga and Barolo, was the Counts Falletti, typically medieval.
Next to the castle stands the eighteenth-century church of the Assumption. The castle is signposted once you are in the country. E 'open every Sunday from May to October.
Rodd and a small town in Langa, not far from Alba, also Roddi refers, in the historic, medieval times and has clear references to the Counts Falletti.
Allinterno the dilapidated castle there are signs of a fire that destroyed part of the rooms, many parts are abandoned and dilapidated, some room but it still good.
From the outside gives no obvious signs of decay, instead of the royal castle on the hill, is an ancient medieval castle (circa 1100), which often hosts exhibitions of paintings by emerging artists of the area. Admission is free and there are guided tours, entrance to a nice lady gives some (limited) information and the castle adheres to the Italian initiative "castles Open year. You enter by a door, a lawn that perhaps once was a moat, and here's an entry (not the original primary). The castle has a lot to offer, it is not renewed, is not very interesting, it houses paintings by prominent no furniture, there are special things that attract attention but the evident signs of an ancient fire that is supposed to have destroyed something ....
Three floors of decay, the walls half destroyed, all have secured methods bland, some door is propped up and the upper floor there is the degradation of total and bare rooms and dark.
Well what can we say?
Definitely not worth it!
Surely the worst castle kept the Langhe area of Piedmont, has only the remains of an old fireplace now closed with the remains of an ancient fresco above the fireplace .... some wooden coffered ceiling that did not pursue either color or painted .. .. only remnant of painting on a bearing wall over a passage. During my visit to this relic, there was an exhibition of paintings in progress, only color ..... Two very old rooms that are supposed to be kitchens perhe are the remains of an ancient kiln and shelves, all in stone, are blackened by fire, the information is given on the castle are written on a sheet that is handed to entry. ..... The castle was originally to be very beautiful, medieval style, was also accounts Falletti.
The name of the medieval village of Roddi probably derives from the Celtic Rand or Rod meaning River, already in ancient maps of 700 you can see an ancient castle, leaning against the church. The old castle is also spent in the hands of the royal Savoy, then transferred to public ownership. Certainly do well not to charge admission and who knows maybe one day there will be a restructuring that will make it at least acceptable .....
