The Nelson Castle in the surroundings of Bronte, notorious city of Sicily

One Sunday in June, when the heat is still too stifling, it is ideal to spend a half day at the Nelson Castle and enjoy the good cuisine Agriturismo Nelson.
To reach the area of the castle, which is a bit 'out Bronte, you can take the highway A18 CT-ME exit onto Fiumefreddo and continuing toward Linguaglossa, and Randazzo, without going to Bronte, take the SS 120 for manic-Cesar (about 50 km from the exit of the curved path and view).

Historical
The complex called Nelson duchy, is located about 13 kilometers from Bronte, situated on a flat terrain of the valley on the left bank of the river Saraceno.
Includes wing gentile, the former residence of Nelson (improperly called the Castle) has now been transformed into a museum, the ruins of the Benedictine abbey dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, built by William II the Good, the church of Santa Maria Maniace and a large lush park. It was built around 1173, probably on the ruins of an existing building Basilian, at the behest of Queen Margherita, for lasting memory of the battle won by George Maniace against the Saracens.
Inside the castle you can visit the ducal apartments, the church of Santa Maria Maniace with its Norman Gothic portal and paintings, the remains of the abbey, the museum's photographic lava rock, the English Garden, the big park with playground equipment and modern sculpture in lava rock, every day of the week except Monday, unless it is festive.

Once the first part of the visit to the large and airy park, rich in green and gray areas, we enjoyed an excellent lunch at the Nelson Farm, opposite the Castle.
The farm is a welcoming Chalet DOAT and make space for relaxing walks and see some cute animals.

After returning in the afternoon visited the rooms of the castle, we brought home jars of pesto and pistachios pistachio cream, pistachio, in fact, one of the local products.

A relaxing Sunday. Certainly the road to get there (from Messina) was long but in the end it is really worth it.
