The Archaeological Park of Capo Colonna Roccelletta of Borgia, a journey through history, through the resorts and the enchanting shores of the Ionian Sea, the Gulf of Squillace

The Archaeological Park of Roccelletta of Borgia (CZ) is the place where, according to scholars, has arisen the Greek colony of Skylletion. Excavations have revealed structures far as the Roman theater and the hole, and a basilica dating back to 1060 AD Norman Skylletion ancient Greek masonry structures have not yet emerged, due to the overlap of the Roman city, but many are the ceramic finds of the sixth, fifth and fourth centuries BC Instead, the best documented archaeological evidence of Roman times: a route information panels guide visitors on a path leading from the entrance to the imposing ruins of the first Norman basilica of Santa Maria della Roccella (eleventh century AD).
Within the park lies the Antiquarian hosting the findings of the place.
The Roman Forum is composed of a rectangular brick paved square surrounded by arcades, have already been dug a caesareum, the Curia classroom and spa, have also seen a small temple, a monumental fountain and a court.
From this area comes also a wonderful series of portraits and statues of the imperial period (I BC - III AD) antiquarium stored in the annex.
In addition to the hole, resting on a hill, stands the Roman theater (I and II AD) that would accommodate about 3000 people. Over the hill of the theater were also identified an amphitheater, unique in Calabria, dated second century AD, three spas, a Roman necropolis and the Roman aqueduct construction also.

Continuing along the road that runs along the Ionian Sea, in the direction of Croton, and through beautiful resorts you come to the Castella of Isola Capo Rizzuto. Located along the Ionian coast, the castle was designed and built in 204 BC, when Hannibal stayed in this area and was inhabited by Arabs and Aragonese.

The peculiarity of Le Castella is the location: built on an islet connected to the coast by a thin strip of land.
The ancient castle was not the only castle in the area, and the name is just the plural to indicate that the fortifications were more than one.

Ten miles south of Crotone, on the promontory overlooking the Ionian coast of Capo Colonna, and that the ancient Greeks called Lakinion Heraion lies the Archaeological Park of Capo Colonna.

The park covers 30 hectares. The area of ??Lakinion Akron, certainly one of the most famous sacred areas of the entire Magna Grecia, revolved around the Sanctuary of Hera Lacinia. The temple itself had a classical temple form: an impressive complex of 48 Doric columns over 8 feet tall and consist of 8 grooved drums. The roof was of marble slabs and tiles in Parian marble.
