What is the Liguria region of Italy, perhaps more colorful, thanks to their homes orange, yellow and pink, able to reflect and amplify even the weakest of the sun, it is known. But just go to Borgio Verezzi to discover that the same characteristic of this wonderful land is manifested even in the ground: in fact, the Caves of Borgio Verezzi, discovered in 1933, when Verezzi Borgio and were united in the same municipality, are the caves of Italy's most colorful tourist. This spectacular phenomenon is due to the presence of several minerals that reflect the soft light giving visitors a kaleidoscope of white, yellows and reds in a thousand different shades.
Our visit starts right in Borgio Verezzi Caves, along the tourist route of about half a mile, during which we admire the huge stalactites from the most curious of the cannulae, drapes incredibly thin, up to the lakes, formed due to water some stream on the surface, including the Rio Battorezza, swallowed by the cavity. Although the caves they had never been inhabited by man, between the concretions were found several pieces of animal bone dating from between 500,000 and 750,000 years ago, and it is not certain about the bones of some unfortunate cat or rabbit: are the remains of rhinos, elephants, tigers, crocodiles, monkeys, bears and even mammoths, roamed undisturbed animals at that time under the sun ... Ligurian
Since we spent so much time since then, we continue our walk without the fear of meeting some wild animal, and so we reach the beautiful Parish Church of St. Peter, built on the ruins of the ancient castle of Albinganeum Burgum in 1789. Even the floor of the church you can access a cave with a lake on its bottom. A Borgio visit the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Good Counsel.
Borgio Verezzi is one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, and also confirms the view of the gulf that widens the curve after curve in a frame of oleander and bougainvillea, to the village of Verezzi which has kept intact its medieval character. In this magical place, especially in St. Augustine's Square, takes place from 1967, every year during the months of July and August, the Festival Theatre Borgio Verezzi. In 2011 the prestigious event is now in its 45th edition, with eight shows in the first National.
At Verezzi we also visit the Church of St. Martin and the Shrine of Mary, Regina Mundi, the two religious buildings are located on the heights, and in their vicinity can also see a curious Mill Phoenician.
Our day of beauty continues at the Caper Restaurant, located in Via Roma. The location is one of those to be left open-mouthed, two old buildings from the late Middle Ages, situated next to each other, home to the restaurant and the spacious bar, which extends over a series of terraces connected to each other, each with breathtaking views of the bay and surrounding mountains. "Once these premises were used for farm work: it was a dryer for corn and other cereals, a mill for the production of olive oil, but also a chicken house and stables, as well as housing and wineries, "he says Mr. Mathias, who created the room with his wife Angela in the late '70s, managing it today with the help of his daughter Francesca. During the renovation of the existing architecture has been little changed, while maintaining and enhancing the environment and the rough walls steeped in history. "We also host weddings and over the years have been many famous actors after the performances of the Theatre Festival, we stopped for dinner," says Ms. Angela.
Eager to taste the authentic local specialties, stuffed vegetables to begin with and Ligurian salad of artichokes with a mullet of Albenga. We follow these exquisite first by trofie with basil cream, green beans and potatoes and sauce with lean pansotti pine nuts and marjoram. Let's water these delicacies with excellent Ligurian wines, including the Vermentino Colli di Luni, Pigato of the Valle d'Albenga and Rossese Dolceacqua. We continue with the buridda squid with pine nuts, olives, potatoes and capers and taste even the Ligurian rabbit with herbs creuza. After tasting the delicious homemade desserts also, we go up on the terraces and admire the beautiful view with the light of the moon and the stars, sipping cocktails of the American Bar
A mojito, a caipirina, whose bright colors are mixed with the romantic lights of this place, reminding us of the colorful reflections of the caves: the day in Borgio Verezzi was a real magic.
