It takes just two steps away along a tree-lined up to admire, from the shadow of a pine tree, a landscape of rare beauty: the rust-colored tiles, red brick houses, the arches that bear witness to times gone by. Walking through the streets of Cassine you are surrounded by warmth and tranquility that would be unthinkable in a big city. As my gaze sweeps from a bell tower to reveal signs that green hills in the distance, and the imagination begins to populate the knights of the old town alleys that remain almost entirely intact, the memory of a charming medieval past, I am think of a song by Wayne Watson: "You, my dear old tree, you have been the castle of a kingdom and even know it." Luigi Tenco, the great singer who sang love more visceral, the most romantic and deep, was born right here in Cassine, of the Alexandrian country about 15 km from Acqui Terme, where he lived, also attending often Ricaldone , country of origin of his mother until he was ten years old when his family moved to Liguria. Tenco but not the only important artist born in Cassine: the city, referred to as the territory of the episcopate of Acqui in documents of the tenth century, was born in 1912, also a distinguished painter, Franco Sassi. Several works by the artist are kept in the Pinacoteca Civica in Alexandria, and five of his watercolors can be seen even at the British Museum in London. Few painters have been able to paint the fog as he did: the farms of his watercolors strike the imagination although veiled by timid touches of authentic Piedmontese fog. His "medieval landscape" because they are paying homage to the famous fourteenth-century Church of San Francesco, a wonderful monument of Lombard Gothic Cassine, making element of the fantastic visions through surrealistic paintings.

Cassine But art is not only in painting and music: you can breathe in the way of thinking and working people. Last summer a group of friends we decided to leave behind the city and transform us for a few days of knights in the past, going to the rediscovery of the nature of the hills of Monferrato, through the exciting horse trekking trips . We found the perfect place to embark on this adventure with regenerative LA.TI.MI.DA., a farm run by four young brothers, who have managed to convey their genuine love for the rural world and nature. "Not everyone in life can afford to choose, and why many are dissatisfied and sometimes feel suffocating. We just happen to suffer when we are away from home. Like when a small ailment did not allow us to spend their days chasing crickets, or saddle the horse and lose track of time walking through the woods and vineyards of our beautiful hills, "he told Frank, and we could see that it's all true: when she or her sister Danielle talking to their horses, animals seem to really understand their words. In their stories the protagonists are animals, and while they tell the story of a kid that gave birth when they were small, they lead us to meet other furry friends, including some beautiful turtles and even a nice sleeper ferret. After horseback riding we abandoned the pleasures of the palate, so that we are missing anything from the five starters to the wine, we tasted the succulent and hearty dinners based on typical local products, prepared with imagination and artistic sense as risotto with strawberries and rose petals. We also tried the homemade ravioli, venison and pies prepared with jam, "gift" of fruit trees that grow near the old farmhouse. Even our friend, who suffers from gluten intolerance, was able to enjoy eating just like us, because the farm is specialized in gluten-free cooking. After dinner, could not miss the concert of the crickets, in fact, we heard sitting at the gazebo while our horses rested in their stalls.

We returned from this long weekend not only full of fun experiences witnessed by countless photos we took of the beautiful horses, but also with a renewed love for things simple and authentic life. In addition to returning to Cassine summer, we plan to drop by even in September, during the very famous Medieval Festival, the only historical re-enactment of the province of Alessandria. After all, we are riders already become medieval knights will be the next step ...
