Hinterland of Liguria is really very beautiful and impressive, for those who decide to spend a holiday in our beautiful region suggest a visit of this ancient and beautiful hamlets of Castelvecchio Roccabarbena, Zuccarello and Bardineto in the province of Savona. The villages are within easy reach of Albenga.
But let's go with order Zuccarello is like taking a dip in the middle ages and in fact the village is very well preserved, vaults, arches and stone are the dominant elements of the entire residential settlement. We ate at the restaurant during the week the press (menu) actually spending a ridiculous figure if you pass that way I'll recommend for their kindness and excellent cuisine, after which we continued to Castelvecchio di Roccabarbena Zuccarello and as the title has to be counted among the most beautiful towns in Italy. Castelvecchio also has an ancient historical center and a nice children's playground where Matteo was able to finally erupt. Access to the villages is possible for non-residents only on foot but do not worry because just outside the village you will find ample free parking.
If you are not yet tired a few minutes drive from Castelvecchio there is another ancient village Balestrino which was also one of the locations of the famous American film Inkheart, as by now you have also understood this village is dominated by an ancient castle not visited as a private residence. Worth a short detour to visit the sanctuary of Monte Croce where we were from the forties several visions of the Virgin, the sanctuary is very beautiful and especially enjoys a splendid view of the bay below. Continuing our journey we Bardineto comes across a pretty village in the Val Bormida famous for mushrooms and place right here in fact the "National Day Golden Mushroom (2nd or 3rd Sunday in September). Not far from the country take a track that leads to a forest of chestnut trees, beech and birch trees he meets us in the village of mushrooms! I assure you that it is unrealistic to walk in the woods and find yourself in front of these unusual houses that I remember are on private property so closely does it take for them to see the consent of the owners. This route can be expanded with the visit of grot and its caves, a short distance away from Balestrino.
