Tour of Tuscany: visit to the medieval city of San Giminiano
San Gimignano is named after the Bishop of Modena, who died in 387. In 1099 it became a free municipality and fought against the Bishops of Volterra and the surrounding cities. The plague of 1348 and the subsequent crisis led to the 1353 NRL submission to Florence.
