Given the proximity to my place of residence, I had occasion to visit the Province of Livorno different times and not always for pleasure. More than one route will try to give some impressions on my mind to places of interest. The capital is peripheral rather than the Province, was founded by Florence milirtare as a port and commercial. The large rectangular and square of the Republic is almost a bridge built on one of the many ditches citizens, one of its sides, moreover, overlooks the wide channel around the Fortress of New Renaissance whose ramparts were turned into a national park. Walking the District Venezia Nuova and following the gap is smaller comes to the Old Fort ramparts which are lapped by the sea. The Fort is near the port, one of the most important in Italy in both the military and the merchant. The real heart of the current ivorno is, however, between the Piazza Grande with the low Duomo and Via Cairoli. The old town is almost an island surrounded by moats and lapped by the sea, connected to the mainland only by a bridge consisting of Piazza della Repubblica. Just on the side that faces the port is the famous monument to the four died. The real lungomare Leghorn is, however, to the south of this island from nearly pentagonal shape when port facilities give way all'elegante Terrazza Mascagni and some bathing establishments in vogue in the early'900. Later the Naval Academy Officers molds of the Navy and is the basis of the famous sailing ship Amerigo Vespucci considered by many the most beautiful ship in the world. Located on the hills near the village of Montenero with its Marian Shrine. The Madonna of Montenero is much revered, is the patron saint of Tuscany and within the Church there are many votive offerings donated by those who have been pardoned. In the country can also be reached by a tramway to crimagliera from the valley below, there are caves to visit, but no details of concretions. Back on the coast road left Livorno continues south lapped the cliffs and two small castles before reaching the resort town of Castiglioncello has a marina and lush vegetation. Continuing south, the seaside resort of Marina di Cecina houses the Water Village, which together with the sister water park Follonica is the largest facility of its kind in Tuscany. Continuing south we reach San Guido, from here a road flanked by cypress trees famous up inside leads to the characteristic village of Bolgheri, entirely surrounded by countryside and grew up around its castle. Bolgheri is linked to the memory of the poet Giosuè Carducci who lived here and dedicated to his beautiful poem cypress. Returning to the sea in the area between Donoratico and Marina di Castagneto Carducci, is the largest amusement park in Tuscany, the "Cavallino Matto". Immersed in a pine forest, despite being unable to compete with the best known Gardaland is certainly commendable. If you are right here is worth taking a walk on the promenade of Marina di Castagneto Carducci is seen that immediately after the pine forest which is home to the Park. A little further south to San Vincenzo, another seaside resort, and in its interior towns and Venturina Suvereto. Almost Maremma near the port of Piombino is the starting point of the direct ferry to Elba, the largest of the Tuscan Archipelago and the third of Italy (see itinerary Archipelago Toscano)
