This summer my husband and I had wanted Alexander to relax and spend days walking in the quiet. Moreover, Alexander wanted to realize his dream of driving a vintage car. We asked "What is the best route if not the hills of Tuscany?"

Modena

We left Milan soon enough. We decided to stop overnight at Modena to make a stop in our journey, in short, really wanted to take things calmly and leave behind the stress of the past. In Modena, we have stayed at the Hotel Del Pozzo. The hotel is a two star but very comfortable. Just leave your luggage in the room we decided to go out and take a walk around the city. We were a bit 'surprised to be honest, to see so many foreigners with tourist guide in hand. The Cathedral is really beautiful and impressive. Outside are the colors that struck me, the inside makes me want to just sit and admire all the treasures around you. During the tour of the city, we saw that evening was to be held an outdoor concert of music by Ennio Morricone, so we decided to eat quickly and go to attend.

Cetona

On the morning of 03/08/07 we left fairly early to avoid traffic, in particular, near Florence, which of course we could not avoid ... but luckily the rest of the way was clear. The indications that we had provided the company Zephyrus, a company where we rented a vintage car to reach the farm you are recognized as excellent, in fact, to get to Podere Lamacchia you need to travel a dirt road off the main road is not very visible. The farm is located just in front of a field of sunflowers, which gives a show to leave you breathless. The structure is excellent, the rooms are small apartments. During our stay we always had dinner here because the dinners were really very good. Soon after our arrival we saw Cetona.

Chianciano Terme, Montepulciano, Pienza, San Quirico d'Orcia

On 04/08/07 staff Zephyrus brought us the car we had booked directly at the Farm and gave us a road book with 9 different routes in the area complete with driving directions (the less traffic and the best views) . After we stopped for a moment to decide the first journey we started with great enthusiasm. My first experience was awful to navigate, do not know how many people have managed to get lost in Chianciano Terme, but I assure you that I made ...
Our first stop of the day was (just) in Chianciano Terme, of course, is famous for its spas located in the city but also its historical center is very beautiful. The second step was the church of San Biagio in Montepulciano we could not go inside because a wedding was under way but only the square and you enjoy the view from there we were satisfied. Soon after we moved into the car toward the center of the country we have passed the front door and we were walking aimlessly. We had lunch in a restaurant and we reached the car to travel to Pienza, famous for the Piazza Pio II and the Duomo. Scattered around Pienza are many shops that sell cheese, the smell is irresistible I can assure you and the desire to come in and buy as a souvenir of the forms was very strong. I recommend you also run around the walls and not only for the center because even from there the view enjoyed in the hills around is really beautiful. The last country in the program of the day was San Quirico d'Orcia. The town was practically deserted. In fact, even our guide said that it is less known than other previously visited, but I assure you that it is not absolutely fascinating. That evening we dined at Agriturismo based Pici garlic.

Trasimeno lake, Cortona

First of all we visited Castiglione del Lago After a tour of the city we visited the fortress. We have not reached the islands because they did not want to remove the space to other countries that were planned. But we took a walk along the lake. Successivametne we moved and we reached Tuoro Trasimeno, always put the country on the shores of the lake, famous for the way Hannibal. The third stop will be in our path has been Cortona. From the terrace of this town enjoys a beautiful view.

Siena

The third day we received the car all day because we had decided to leave early afternoon for Siena. A little 'we are sorry to take this decision but we were afraid to find traffic. My husband was anxious to go to Radicofani, especially with the oldtimer. E 'was great to turn to these hills.
In the afternoon, as anticipated, we achieved Siena. Our hotel was in a residential area, but served by public transport, in fact we have always moved to the center by bus.

Siena

We left the hotel early and we went downtown. Our first stop was Piazza del Campo, given the number of people who queued outside we decided not to climb the Torre del Mangia. After the ceremony photographs of the Fonte Gaia, we went to the Cathedral. We purchased an admission ticket for the Library Piccolonomi. Recommend a visit inside the cathedral because it is really very beautiful, jaw-dropping. We continued to the Church of San Domenico, the interior is less decorated than the Duomo, but very interesting. From there we went up to the Fortress, which offers a beautiful view over the city.

Lucca

We went to Lucca and once we reached our hotel. Immediately after having supported the suitcases we went for a ride to the center. Around noon a storm surprised us, so we decided to go straight to lunch in the room and we were closer to the Tavern Baralla. We ate very well and the prices are not very high.

Lucca

They came to visit two of our dear friends. With them, we visited the Cathedral, the Church of San Michele, very nice the inside, we climbed on the Tower Reach, the view of the hills is spectacular. For lunch we decided to return to the Tavern Baralla, seeing the good impression that we had the previous day. In the afternoon we toured around the walls, was quite long but it's nice to see the city from all these different angles.
